Artists To Keep Your Eye On

Rai Kah Mercury

Rai Kah Mercury is a three-piece blues-rock band hailing from Staffordshire, England. Defining their music as both 'delicate and chaotic glory', the band members captivate listeners through the complex web they weave in their melodies. Influences range from Joy Division to Radiohead and Crazy House; however, once you heard the artists start to play, you will discover signature pieces that pure Rai Kah Mercury.

Rai Kah Mercury is:

Tomas Crean on guitar and lead vocals.
Reese Schaefer on bass.
Joshua Anthony Lowe on drums.

Rai Kah Mercury released their debut single, 'Terror Incognita', in September 2018, which was well received by audiences.

https://www.facebook.com/raikahmercury/ - the band maintains their Facebook site well and keeps it frequently updated with gig listing and media exposure. They have an array of videos and photos, as well as all information required for contacting the band.

ReverbNation - a good and simple Reverbnation profile page acting as an official website. Clear access to music, photos, videos and gig listings (including Google maps). Great for both fans and press to follow.

Emily Lockett

Emily Lockett is a singer/songwriter from Stoke-on-Trent, UK. Using a style somewhere between folk and modern pop, Emily has sincerity to her voice that is endearing. Having received acclaim from different music blogs and performing live on radio stations such as BBC Radio Stoke and Cannock Choice Radio, Emily is building a name for herself.

Emily recently won the British Country Airplay's 'Artist of The Year 2018 Peoples Vote'.

https://www.facebook.com/EmilyLockettMusic/ - regularly updated with posts regarding new gigs, media exposure and mentions of upcoming plans. Many performance videos available with photographs for fans to enjoy; however, the contact information is limited.

https://www.emilylockett.co.uk/ - the official website is more informative than Emily's social media platforms. A list of upcoming gigs is immediately available with information of the event, as well as a playlist of Emily's music. The news link below is updated regularly, and you can see that this website is managed by Emily through the personal writing style.

All From Nothing

All the way from Emporia, Kansas come five young Americans to form the rock band All From Nothing. Mixing alternative, modern and hard rock styles, the five-piece are slowly building a fan base while playing gigs, writing music and releasing videos left, right and centre. Their influences range from pop-punk icons Blink 182 to alternative rockers Rise Against.

All From Nothing are:

Jeff Kitselman on lead vocals.
Sage Thurston on guitar and backing vocals.
Gabriel Maruda on guitar and backing vocals.
Josh Pavlik on bass.
James Lee on drums.

All From Nothing released their video 'Burning Trees' on October 11th, 2018.

https://www.facebook.com/AllFromNothing/ - the social media account is well-maintained with regular updates on releases, gigs, and further media exposure. An array of photographs and videos are available allowing fans to view band performances. The appropriate amount of band contact information is available, with some personal features to the 'about' section making it a little less business-like.

https://www.reverbnation.com/AllFromNothing - Reverbnation accounts are ideal as band websites because the site has demarcated sections devoted to shows, music playlists and a band biography. The site is updated regularly, but not as regularly as the Facebook account.

Purusa

Burying the hatchet is always a good thing, as long as it's used as a metaphor and not a real hatchet buried in someone's head. Strong evidence of this is the indie rock four-piece from Portland, Oregon, known as Purusa. The band formed in 1999 and from 2000 to 2003 experienced rapid success as a national act releasing two albums, touring across the West coast, and even releasing an advance single for their third album featuring Ken Stringfellow of The Posies. Unfortunately, it would be over a decade before the much anticipated third album hit the stands when the band made a triumphant return in 2015 at the Aladdin Theater in Portland. Purusa now have a licensing deal with Merina Film Company and continue to write music moving onward with the unique indie rock sound.

Purusa are:

Kris Kirkman on guitar and lead vocals.
Zach Hinkelman on guitar.
Andrew Marshall on bass.
Andy King on drums.

https://www.facebook.com/purusapdx/ - a well-maintained social media account with an array of photographs and videos. Gig listing is available, along with links to other social media and different contact details. This is highly informative and isn't too formal, so you feel as if you are learning more about the band while still engaging on a personal level.

http://www.purusaband.com/ - a well-designed website with easy-to-view colour scheme. Each section of the website is easily reached via the menu, along with a full streaming of their social media accounts on the site. Unless you have a limited data package and have problems downloading graphic backgrounds, this is a great website.

River Lynch and The Spiritmakers

River Lynch and The Spiritmakers is a tale of one singer-songwriter who decided to follow a dream instead of sticking to society's mainstream ideals. After realising he was more of a musician than an academic, River Lynch left college to embark on a solo career for approximately three years. In 2015, he decided it was time to move beyond singer-songwriter status combining his talents with friends; thus, River Lynch and The Spiritmakers were born. A unique combination of rock 'n' roll, blues and rock, the young men from Rochester, New York have released a single and performed with multiple touring acts including Jesse Dayton.

River Lynch and The Spiritmakers are:

River Lynch on guitar and lead vocals.
Schuyler Skuse on bass.
Tim Leverett on drums.

River Lynch and The Spiritmakers released their single, 'Straight Through' in October 2017.

https://www.facebook.com/riverlynchmusic/ - an informative social media account with a great focus on gigs. One exciting feature on this account is the Reverbnation widget with the band's full EPK available, including press review quotes, links to other social accounts and access to music. While it might not be as personalised as some other accounts, the EPK widget is a great feature.

https://www.riverlynch.com/ - the website has all contact, press, and biography information, along with links to their social media accounts. Once again, there's a link to their EPK which is wonderful for press purposes. However, the website has a video background, so it may be difficult to upload if the internet connection is bad or the user has a low data package.

Trey Connor

Trey Connor is a young pop-rock artist hailing from Hartland, Michigan. He began his career in music at age 15 as the front man for modern rock band Bulletproof; however, after two EP releases and a music award, Trey decided to pursue a solo career in the pop-rock genre. In late 2016, Trey released his debut solo EP with producer Tommee Profitt. Since then, he has released two music videos, a single, and another EP. This year, Trey is relocating to Austin, Texas, and indicates that he will be beginning another step in his musical experience. His influences include Skid Row, Goo Goo Dolls, and Foo Fighters.

Trey Connor's most recent release is his music video for 'My Ghosts' in April 2018.

https://www.facebook.com/TreyConnorMusic/ - Trey's social media account could be likened to a personal Facebook account. It is well-maintained and shares many videos not only of gigs but of covers with personal messages in the descriptions. Links to other social media accounts are available, along with contact details and information about himself. The account also has a Reverbnation app with an EPK, so fans have access to music and press reviews.

http://www.treyconnor.com/index.html - a well-structured site with a clear menu, easy-to-view setting and access to all multimedia. Streaming from other social media sites is available, along with links to charities Trey supports which is a nice, personalised touch.

White Label Analog

White Label Analog is an indie pop foursome hailing from the city of Austin in Texas. They released their debut EP in September 2016, which prompted a tour from Austin to the Pacific Northwest and down the West Coast of the US. According to Paul Driscoll from RadioBDC, White Label Analog "created a sound that echoes some of the greats in the indie and alternative genres, while remaining uniquely their own". By 2017, White Label Analog's tracks were featured in MTV shows, and the single 'Where Have You Been' was licensed to feature in the film 'My Ranger'.

White Label Analog is:

Chris Didear on lead vocals.
Heath Macintosh on drums and vocals.
Chal Boudreaux on guitar and vocals.
Mike Fisher on bass.

White Label Analog released their latest single 'Everybody Knows' in September 2018.

https://www.facebook.com/whitelabelanalog/ - a well-maintained and personalised social media account. The videos provided offer insight into the band's experiences, and lots of information is available for live events. A significant focus on community engagement, and good links to contact information and other social media accounts. Overall, a really good Facebook account.

https://www.whitelabelanalog.com/ - while there is a carefully laid-out menu to music, merch and gigs, all of this information is available on the homepage. A link to social media accounts and videos are available making it highly informative for new and current fans. A large header picture, so that could be a bit off-putting.

Liber Electro

Liber Electro is an indie electronic three-piece formed in the Ukraine, Odessa to be precise. Founded in 2013, they released an EP titled 'Liber Electro I' - an album that showed how the band uses powerful electronics to present a unique sound without being too overwhelming. Liber Electro are influenced by the sounds of Steve Vai, Led Zeppelin and Jamariquai.

Liber Electro is:

Maksin Gorovenko on keyboards.
Vasilieva Liudmila on lead vocals.
Vladimir Pavleshchiuk on guitar.

https://www.facebook.com/liberelectro/ - the social media account has a personalised touch with a lot of photographs from Instagram making it useful for people interested in following the band. The band profile widget provides access to press reviews, music samples and gig details keeping people updated for performances. Little information regarding biography, but the contact information is adequate.

https://www.reverbnation.com/liberelectro - this is a Reverbnation band profile page, so it has information regarding music, videos and shows. It also has community reviews with access to other social media accounts which is great for new and existing fans. Contact details are not available, and this should be considered.

New Gems Rising

Joel Cross

Joel Cross is a Grammy- Nominated soul singer from Texas, whom achieved global stardom after his rendition of Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off “received over a million views on You Tube. Cross soon attracted the interest of Capitol Records, America’s Got Talent and Grammy- Award winner Indi Arie, whom he collaborated with on her award winning 2017 album “Songsversation: Medicine. Cross is currently recording the follow up entitled Worthy . Cross’ voice is strong, enriched in heart and raw emotion that will be difficult not to appreciate with elements of gospel incorporated into the sound. India Arie describes Cross’s voice as “beautiful baritone coming from a beautiful heart”.

http://www.joelcross.com/

This is another well-presented site with striking images of Cross that conveys the message of a talented singer with some links to music, videos, lyrics and a compelling biography.

https://www.facebook.com/joelcross.music

This is another compelling account featuring updates on cross’s performances, Magazine appearances, photos of friends and fans, plus videos of covers too. This is an all-round informative account that appeals to all fans.

InCrest

It was whilst in Boarding School, Danish Grunge rockers’ InCrest were formed by Male Slywest, Jonas Tange and former Bassist Jonas Berthelsen in 2003.

The band initially formed through the inspiration of nineties' acts like Soundgarden and Nirvana with the intentions of emulating them.

In 2007, Berthelsen was replaced by Ande Hagedorn- Olson, which soon saw the band change musical direction into a more progressive sound, incorporating bands such as Tool and Porcupine Tree.. They play roaring melodies and frantic guitar- orientated rock with thought-provoking lyrics. They have released two studio albums thus far; The 2014 Rubicon Atlas & this year’s latest release The Ladder, The Climb and The Fall.

http://increst.dk/

This is an accessible site with a strong colour coordination that is easy to maneuver. There are latest news updates from the band’s social accounts, music videos, photos and an informative biography. I feel this an efficient site for new fans.

https://www.facebook.com/increstband/

This is another organized account with regular updates on the band’s promo, plus photos of the band relaxing, as well as videos of them on tour. This is certainly enough to pique the interest.

Billy Thompson

Billy Thompson is a wily veteran, whose songwriting, slide guitar technique and performances have won him new fans across USA. His music has been described as “Hendrix meets Little Feat”. Thompson has performed with fellow veterans such as Albert King and Art Neville, along with opening up for Robert Cray and Sonny Landreth.

His styles incorporate a large pool of genres like funk, blues, rock and soul.

Billy Thompson recently released his 8th studio album BT”.

https://billythompsonmusic.com/

As with all the pages I have reviewed thus far, this is another well maintained site I enjoyed perusing. I can tell Thompson is a well-respected musician by the way it has been presented. I liked how it wasn’t flash and bright, which made it easy to read. There are some reviews under the news section for all of us music writers to look through (smiley face), alongside tour dates, photos of Thompson with the legendary itinerary he has befriended. There are also recordings and an endorsement link, which can be of interest to any musician out there.

https://www.facebook.com/Billy-Thompson-433934915716/

This site doesn’t have much information in comparison to the homepage. The posts are more geared towards promoting gigs, rather than informing new fans. The videos are a nice touch with some performances with renowned musicians, and the photos show Thompson’s fun side .

Greg Larkin

Greg Larkin is a something of an unusual prodigy. The self- taught guitarist plays largely acoustic instrumental through a fingerpicking/tapping style, which creates a feeling there are more than one guitar playing at once. He has been touring for 6 years, supporting stars like Nick Harper, Arthur Brown & Wallis Bird. Larkin incorporates different genres like Jazz, Blues, Latin fusion etc. Larkin recently began work with numerous figures in the world of Electronica, Jazz, Trip- Hop and Hip Hop.

Larkin recently featured on the DRS track “Your Name” with Hip Hop artist Skittles.

https://www.theinimitablegreg.com/

My first thoughts on visiting where how it is self- managed. There is little to suggest this may be a musician’s webpage, except for a gig update and a background picture of a guitar. I felt this changed when I clicked on the about section. Larkin writes a warm and personal introduction of his abilities alongside a collection of music videos and performances. I felt this was a positive for new fans. There are no photos, However, the links to Larkin’s Three albums give fans plenty to sink their teeth into.

https://www.facebook.com/greglarkinmusic/

This is another good social media page that offers more than the webpage. There are some more videos of Larkin on stage, which feels very intimate. There are regular updates on upcoming gigs and news on appearances Also, there are some great links to music too. I felt this site appealed more to the listener.

Katie Rose

Katie Rose is a Multi- Instrumentalist/ Singer/ Songwriter from Taledo, Washington. She combines Blues, Pop, rock, Soul, Latin and Reggae to create powerful choruses and easy listening beats that will leave you feeling relaxed. Rose began singing at a young age; her first performance was aged 9 at a Local Eagles show. Rose has gone on to perform with her own band, The Fun addicts, and currently attends Berklee College of Music.

http://www.katierosemusic8.com/

I felt this was a professionally run site that appeals to visitors alike. There is a large background photo of Rose with a guitar, which instantly tells me she is a musician. The interface is easy to maneuver; plus, there is easy access to music, videos of Rose performing, as well as some lovely photos of rose out and about.

https://www.facebook.com/katierosemusic8/

This is a nicely organized account that is targeted towards fans. There are some nice photos’ that mix performance and personal pics, which I felt involves fans There are some fun videos that appear to be recorded on home video too. The only negative point is there is little updates, but rather repeated promotion of the singer’s reverb nation page.

Fueled by her desire to inspire, uplift and spread JOY to others through her music, she comforts and excites the soul through every lyric and note. Her EP, "A Tale of Joy & Sorrow", written and produced by The Gigabots (Douglas Whatley & Prem Midha), is available for FREE download. The story of Joy Conaway has just begun.

For Joy Conaway all that matters is music so on the official website you will encounter first her songs and videos. You can feel her presence with the sensual backgrounds. Social media are available and you can find them at the bootom of the website.

ZØYA

ZØYA is an independent recording artist, singer-songwriter, musician and storyteller based in Los Angeles, CA. Her raspy, pure, emotional vocals along with unique and spunky presence on stage will wake you up if you're asleep and surely will grab your attention right away. The largest part of her music is about struggles that she was going through in her life, especially during her teenage years. Her songs are for those who need encouragement or a positive vibe throughout their day. Though mistreated by others in the past, ZØYA now imbues her music with the kind of soul somebody only gets by aligning an inner fire with a greater power.

A very well structured website boys and gilrs full of informations and profecional photographs of ZØYA. On stage or not. Very cool feature the spot where news and events are gathered on the center of the home page. Very rich social media presence also. Highlight of the website ZØYA's tour dates schedule.

P.S The old school background photo kicks ….

Of Sea and Stone

Of Sea and Stone is an emerging Americana duo known for their polished vocal harmonies and intimate songwriting. Their sound ranges from joyful to solemn, hopeful to desperate, with raw, honest lyrics carried by their haunting melodies. The duo consists of Luke Dierker and Morgan Dierker, who met in January 2014 through the popular dating app Tinder. The two quickly discovered their natural vocal chemistry and began writing together in Morgan’s hometown of Columbia, MO. The following week, the two performed their first show at Gunter Hans, a small German café in Columbia. After a few years of regularly performing in Columbia, the two got married and moved to Austin, TX.

The Americana duo introduce it self with few HD photos and connects with the music community right aways with their social media options that you can find on the top of the website.

Music, media and tour options are in the front line for the visitors. An on line shop is open too with a special item, handy and needed for the lovers of cold refreshments or beer (beer for me boys and girls).

WD-HAN

WD-HAN is an alternative indie rock band based in Tampa Bay, Florida. The band took its original form with Cal Henry on guitar, jamming and writing with high school friends. In need of a name, WD-HAN was considered and loved instantly.
Over the following years as the band continued to write new music and play bigger and better gigs they started to build a following. With the addition of Lea Campbell on drums and Spencer Barnes as the band’s front man, they developed their own kind of pop rock sound heavily influenced by a love of classic rock and blues.

There is only one word to describe a band with a girl on the drum set. F@@ing Gorgeous (two words but worth it).

The band as it seems cares more about the right promotion of their music. A very cool feauture is on the home page the new album promotion with a player to listen and buy their songs. An on line shop is active where you can buy T-shirts or the new album.

Social media are available too on every page on the right.

Something that the band must add on the website is the band's BIO.

Highlight of the band it is the very clever name. In fact it is more a statement of the band that they (We) Don’t Have A Name!

Le Lien is a Soulful Artist and Actor from Austin, Texas. Her music has been described as “unique, with a feminine grit”. I see similarities with her evocative charm that incorporates, Rock, Pop, Blues, Soul with Rock ‘N’ Roll styling. She has released two worldwide singles in “Give Me Your Love “and “Somebody to Love”, which has gained much coverage on Radio Stations.

It's Time To Rock Out With These Awesome Rock Bands

Veilside

Having been a part of the Chicago rock circuit since 2004, in one way or another, Veilside has over ten years of experience under their belts. Described as a 'no frills hard rock band', the band has shared the stage with notable acts including Halestorm, Five Finger Death Punch, Alter Bridge and Crossfade. In addition to playing with bigger acts, Veilside promote causes that are close to their hearts and play children's charity events regularly. To date, the band has three releases - two EPs and one full-length album.

Veilside is:

Tony Engel on lead vocals.
Russ Odean on guitar and backing vocals.
Sharon Cline on guitar and backing vocals.
Ron Thomas on drums and backing vocals.
Bob Hilton on bass.

Veilside released a highly anticipated full-length album in 2018 entitled 'Eclipse'.

https://www.facebook.com/VEILSIDEBAND/ - Veilside's Facebook account is well-maintained with regular posts focusing on promotion of shows. The band have provided an array of videos and pictures, so visitors are able to see Veilside in their onstage element! A Reverbnation band profile widget is available giving visitors access to music, press, and focus on the gig information. Overall, this is a great account with contact information, background information and a link to their official website clearly available.

https://www.veilsideband.com/ - I have no qualms in saying that Veilside's official website is one of my favourite band websites to date. The menu clearly places each aspect of the band into a specific section, even links to lyrics, personal comments and affiliate links. I enjoy the personal comments and affiliate links as it shows how much they care about engaging with the music community. A store is available, detailed background history, and both a contact box with direct email (if you prefer this option). I love it!

Secondhand Habit

The saying goes that all Canadians are super-sweet and really friendly, but that doesn't mean they have to be quiet! A force to be reckoned with, Secondhand Habit is a high voltage rock 'n' roll threesome raging from Victoria, BC. Compared to Nirvana, Alice in Chains and Guns 'N' Roses, the band has performed several national tours, performed at the Oasis Rock 'n' Roll Marathon in Stanley Park, and opened for acts such as Dead Quiet. To date, the band has released one EP entitled 'From The Ashes'.

Secondhand Habit is:

Jesse Turner on guitar and lead vocals.
Jon Yellowlees on lead guitar and backing vocals.
Levi Megebir on bass.
Skyler Wilson on drums.

In June of this year, Secondhand Habit released their single 'Bad Habit'.

https://www.facebook.com/pg/secondhandhabit/ - Secondhand Habit's Facebook account is well-maintained with some personal commentary added to their event promo posts. They also have several photographs with videos that are more personal allowing visitors an insight into the band. A Reverbnation band profile is available giving visitors access to music, official videos, event details and press quotes. My problem lies with their 'about' page - background information, contact details and a link to their official website is available; however, it would be useful to have links to other social media accounts and please update the band members.

https://secondhandhabit.com/ - Secondhand habit use the basic Bandcamp profile as their official website. An economic and beneficial option, this focuses primarily on the sales of albums with little information about the band itself. There are links to their social media accounts, a contact link, and merchandise options; however, it would be nice to read some more about the band (particularly from a press perspective).

Newborn

While Newborn is described as 'alternative rock', they are anything but. Difficult to place in an genre, or the sub-genres, this threesome from Brooklyn, NY, are proving that music is not about labels but about the music. They have a diverse and unique sound entrancing listeners across the globe, so no-one really cares what they're called. The band has released two well-received EPs and has played in some of New York's most well-known venues, such as Stage 48 and Irving Plaza.

Newborn is:

Allen James on vocals and guitar.
Eric Weglicki on bass.
Dave Goldenberg on drums.

Newborn released a new single in October, 2018, entitled 'Shadow of Your Heart'.

https://www.newbornband.com/ - Newborn's official band website is well presented and focuses greatly on the audio-visual side of their band. The menu is clearly located with official videos, playlists and photographs available; in fact, the photo section has a link to their Instagram. The background information is concise and easy to follow, which is a relief after reading many profiles. The band also has a separate contact page with a box and various direct emails. In addition to the social media account widget in the menu, I also enjoyed the press kit download on each page.

Son Of Prey

Son of Prey is a five-piece alternative rock band hailing from the Northern European side of the world - Denmark to be specific. When people think of Danes, we consider Vikings, and Son of Prey are as powerful in their music. A compelling sound driven by strong vocals and based on powerful themes, they are not one to miss if you're into good music. To date, they have released two EPs.

Son of Prey is:

Joakim Moe Jensen
Mikas Merrild
Simon L. R. Jørgensen
Thomas Waarkjær
Jakob Nørager Christensen

Son of Prey will be releasing a new EP soon entitled 'Alison'.

https://www.facebook.com/sonofprey/ - Son of Prey have a somewhat well-maintained Facebook account posting important information when necessary. Videos and photographs are available for visitors to peruse, and there are more personal images/videos to view making it an engaging experience. The account has a Reverbnation band profile, so there is access to music and upcoming events. I find it disappointing that the account lacks links to other social media accounts, and only basic background information is available. The greatest problem I have with this account, and this may be a personal preference, is the video header! As a person with photosensitivity, it's just annoying to have to deal with a fast moving image when trying to read information.

Jimmy Lee Morris is an English Singer / Songwriter, who claims to be “happy writing songs to one, or to an audience. “ His latest EP Last of the Tall Ships was released recently. This seven track album was recorded with modern tech to imitate the analogue sound of music he first recorded with his previous band A La Tiene in 1983. Morris has been performing around Europe for 30 years and this package is a collection of well-crafted pop songs wrapped in ambience, blues, folk complete with strong imagery and telling poetry. I found this was worth a few listens to truly encapsulate Morris’ gift for atmospheric music that is as beautiful as a midsummer’s night. The striking thing about Morris’ music is how warm and inviting his vocals are. I will be exploring this EP a little further with a look at each track.

Opener Buying Time is an acoustic track that wouldn’t be out of place at a barbecue. The opening bright chords of keyboards supplement the soft vocals and driving rhythm are suitable with a coffee. The feelgood vibes will keep you hooked throughout the remainder of this EP.

Bigger Sky  is a lovely up-tempo electric blues track. The nice tempi and speed of bass, drums and electric guitar combine to produce a rich texture of funky beats that supplements Morris’ soft vocals. I feel this type of style is more suitable to his voice and allows the music is an added dimension to his sound. The song finishes with a beautiful outro of keyboard . It gives the feeling like the listener is drifting through the sky with every strum.

Freestyle is a track oozing with swagger and empathy about moving on from a bad relationship. The swinging backbeats skip along with glee to Morris’ cool vocals and pounding drumbeats that feel like a man relieved. The recurring riff sounds like The Rolling Stone’s Jumpin’ Jack Flash with a twist.

Something About You is a timeless love song that whistles along with the wheezing sound of keyboards that the crisp bass that gives this song its strengths.

Last of the Tall Ships is an indie track replete with expansive synth tunes and strong melodic lines that is nice for that drive home

Glad You Have Gone is easily my favourite track on the EP. This is R ‘N’ B with a modern edge. The succulent bass and tribal percussive beats create a high tempo of funk .

The Last Ship is an instrumental remix of Last of The tall Ships, a basic structure of synthetic beats that rightly wraps up this outing for James Morris.

Morris creates a mixture of wonderful atmospheric tunes and thought provoking lyrics that incorporate several genres that are evenly matched album that is never the same throughout.

Jimmy Lee Morris Last of the Tall Ships is now available on Bandcamp.

A Second Life - Review And Interview

A Second Life is an Alternative Rock band from New York, who were formed over a bond of friendships and love of the NY music scene. The overall sound of the band is described as U2 meets Kings Of Leon dipped in 30 seconds to Mars. Their goal is to create thought provoking music that evokes emotions. The current line up consists of Chris Damphouse ( Vocals) Dan DelVecchio (guitars and vocals), Max Ross (guitar, piano, vocals), Justin Scheidling (drums), Dan O’Dowd (bass), and Rob Mino (guitar). The band will be supporting the release of their debut EP Civil Life with a tour across the U.S , as well as several festival appearances during the Summer 2018.

I shall give the reader a quick review of the new five- track Civil Life which will give listeners a good opportunity to hear the band’s melodic and evocative music close up.

Just Whisper is a lovely opener packed full of melodious charm. Damphouse’s vocals blend against a backdrop of harmonious power chords and backing vocals when the chorus kicks in. This track works well as a breakout hit for radio airplay.

You’re Missing From Me is a more upbeat track that opens with an atmospheric buzz of electric guitar . It is a track that is full of hooks and subtle transitions into melodic guitar lines and bright bridges that supplement the vocal qualities that sing about been apart. This is easily the standout track for me because of the huge singalong chorus and guitar techniques with the pedal that are added to give it some definition.

Civil War is an anthemic acoustic track about finding a resolution to conflict. This track illustrates the band’s influences of U2 and 30 seconds to mars within it. The small melodic patterns and intimate vocals are sung against a backbeat of rhythmic drumming and acoustic guitar. The track slowly builds towards the chorus at the end with heartfelt singing. I feel this is another good track that would appeal to a teenage audience and fans of the aforementioned bands.

Beautiful Distraction is another acoustic track that is reflective in the title (beautiful)! The lyrics are poetic and strike strong imagery against the backdrop of expressive pop rock. The band have the ability to know how to write tracks with swirling melodies and beats. The addition of backing vocals gives the songs an extra edge, along with the harmonious guitar lines with an effects pedal is like the music equivalent of painting on a canvas.

You ends with a change in direction. It is an edgy and up-tempo track that has these toes tapping! The track begins with a thick , funky bass line that explodes with a continuous crunchy riff and catchy chorus and distorted vocals that has all the ingredients to be a smash hit. You can’t help dance to

A Second Life will next be performing at The Bitter End in New York, NY on May 12th before an appearance at Montauk Music Festival on May 17th in Montauk, NY

A Second Life Interview

Good morning, Could you tell us how you met The Old School Project?

We found you on Indie music bus. Nick is amazing the way he supports us bands!

Could you tell me about how the band formed and what lead you to start a band?

I had taken a year off and really missed the music. I decided to learn Guitar and found a great Teacher (Dan Delvecchio). We had so many of the same ideas I realized it was time to make music again!!!

Who would you say the biggest influences on your musical career so far?

It is a hard question. I’d say my Dad and Brother Max. Also, the music that inspires me comes from everywhere. But I’d say U2 , 30 seconds to Mars, Kings of Leon to name a few!!!

You say you write music to evoke emotions, how do you feel you can achieve this in your writing?

It comes from my heart , it’s a fire I feel. Each song has a meaning to me. Every moment in my life I can remember music to accompany it!

What are the reasons behind the name A Second Life?

It’s simple really . It means a second shot at this whole music thing!!

What are your goals moving forward in the industry?

To be heard, to share my music with as many ears that will listen. I don't do this for fame or fortune . I do it because I simply love music.

You have a huge following on platforms like Spotify, How important do you think stations like them and TOSP are for unsigned acts trying to get noticed?

They are insanely important!!!! Back only a few years ago indie artists would have to have a record deal to be heard . Now we can do all of it ourselves. In the end it's just like running a company you need hard work and consistency !

You recently released your Debut EP called Civil Life . What is the idea behind the title, and what was the recording process like during the making of it?

The Idea is it's all about living a life to be proud of, a life my kids would be proud of. We record with Rob Freeman at Audio Pilot studios in NJ. He’s simply awesome he doesn't let us ever settle for …ehhhh! When we suck he tells us ! if you can't take constructive criticism you should not make music.

You will be performing at the four day event Montauk Music Festival beginning on May 17th, how excited are you to be performing there?

We can't wait!!!! it's a beautiful location with people who want to hear new music!!!

What will are fans likely to expect from your appearance?

A real genuine band that brings it every time they play. We are here for them , we want them to feel what we feel!

Is there any dream venue, or festival, you’d like to perform at?

Its right on Long Island , I want to play a Northwell Theater, Jones Beach. Its right on the water. I’ve seen most of my favorites play there. To stand under the stars and share my music with a crowded hometown Theater would be priceless . I’d play for free !!!

And Finally, what is next for A Second life?

To keep pushing, to keep putting our lives to music, to enjoy the process, to enjoy the ride!!!

Review And Interview With Betty Moon

Betty Moon is a recognized Toronto- Born singer, producer and Rock ‘N’ roll fashionista, who continues to defy trends with her edgy electronic pop, soul and rock. Moon has achieved success through her previous releases, as well as TV and Films. Her music has featured in several shows like The Walking Dead and Californification, which has led to numerous award nominations.

Moon has gained a following through her social media accounts, and has featured in heavy rotation across worldwide retail airplay, as well as appearing in several publications. The singer is set to release her 9th album Hellucination, which is a follow up to 2017’s Chromes. The 6 track EP draws influences from underground sounds ranging from rock, soul and electro pop. This self – produced piece explores Moon’s sultry vocals in more detail, alongside an injection of soul-searching lyrics, dynamic beats, and a sense of empowerment.

Hellucination exposes Moon’s ear for detail, and an ability to engage listeners with her visionary, and a sense of adventure. I will be exploring the EP further, as well as conducting an interview with the star about her upcoming release.

Fear Takes Control opens proceedings with a twisted trip through electronica beats and a dark passage recited by Moon. This intricate usage of thick synthesizers and hollow singing reminds me of the late Prodigy, as the dark tones and textures evoke images of a tortured soul.

Dirty Love is an introspective look at betrayal. Moon’s vocals are soulful and steeped with emotion, accompanied by a backing drumbeat that emphasizes each point of fragility. This track has an injection of the singer’s vocal range that flickers between mid-tempo cries of “I can’t get enough of your dirty love” to a more dynamic pitch of howls. The tempo changes throughout each verse as Moon ponders what she had with the other character. This causes a change in vocals that build with each beat to reflect the countered emotions the star feels.

Violent City is a more upbeat dance track with more brighter beats. Moon’s vocals are distorted at times; like a woman singing alone down an empty street. The synths contort with more fuzzy beats to produce a track more appropriate for these summer days.

Save My Soul is the lead track on the album which Moon’s vocals continue to steal the listener with raw emotion and variety that leads you to feel empathy towards her. The fuzzy synth sound and electronic beats do sound like Moon is trying to find an escape through distorted vocals around the bridge.

Get Your Gun features a more grunge rock sound with high energy driven distorted guitar. Moon’s vocals are sensual and energetic that feels soul inducing with a powerful range.

Hellucination is due out on May 19th

Interview with Betty Moon

Hello Betty, congratulations on your newest release. Can you explain what fans are to expect from your new album Hellucination?

Thank you! I think longtime fans of Betty Moon can expect a nice mix of my original sound and much of a electronic/pop that I’ve been putting into my music as of late. For those that don’t know, I have my latest single “Save My Soul” out now and that will be on ‘Hellucination’. Up until and after the album comes out there will be multiple singles and music videos made available, just to keep things fresh and interesting over the upcoming months.

On first listen, I can hear a lot of ideas going into the lyrics and music. Is the album title Hellucination about this?

I like to leave the lyrics and deeper meanings of every song up to the listener to make it their own. However, the overall vibe and theme of the album is fairly direct, and explores how we are all living in a ‘Hellucination’. It was really fun putting this album together, and I couldn’t be happier with how it came out.

It is quite eclectic with sounds ranging from electronica to pop to rock. Did these genres have any inspiration behind the thought process in the album?

I think it’s really a combination of everything I’ve been influenced by since I started listening to music long ago. Since my music has a blend of rock, pop and electronic, it’s only a given that many of these songs will touch on themes that some of the artists I grew up on talked about. However, I make a conscious effort to always blaze my own trail and write about the things that truly mean something to me.

What was the writing process like behind making it?

It took about a year to fully write, pre-produce, hit the studio and mix ‘Hellucination’. Some of these songs came together in a day, while others were pieced together over the months. I worked with my team to write a lot of these, and some ideas were over email, but many were simply by us being in a room together with the agenda of writing some great music.

I understand you self-produced the album. Was it difficult to write and produce the album together?

Not at all, I’ve been doing this a long time and since I didn’t have a deadline to finish the album things really came together naturally. Sometimes artists are under the gun to wrap an album and it can add unwanted pressure or even kill the vibe of the music. I made it a priority to self produce an album that made me 110% happy and take the time needed to get all the work done without hiccups.

What was the recording process behind it like for you?

I tracked everything at my studio here in Malibu, CA. We used real drums, guitars, bass and tracked everything using real gear, heads, cabs, mics etc. You get it, the way it ought to be for a great rock/electronic record. Much of ‘Hellucination’ has electronic instruments (keys etc), so for anything rock I wanted to make sure it was organic. We spent sometimes entire days in the studio tracking this thing, and other times just an hour or two to work on some critical parts.

And do you feel there is a different sense of pressure producing an album, in comparison to being a singer and writer in the studio?

Sometimes you get in your head about parts or you second guess your work. That’s the only downside of handling so much of it yourself. I didn’t feel too much pressure though, there wasn’t a deadline to get this album done.

As a producer, I imagine you need an astute ear, do you feel this was important in making the album?

Absolutely, sometimes I have to come back to parts of a song or a mix the next day so I can rest up and be ready to listen. After a long day in the studio that ear for a great song/mix can get fried, so talent is really half the battle. That’s why artists and producers need a good amount of time in the studio, so there’s time to rest and revisit parts with a fresh set of ears.

Do you see yourself being critical of some parts, in comparison to being a performer and having a producer instruct you?

It’s a blessing and a curse. I can only imagine most people in my position would agree. It’s nice to have outside feedback, which I do get from my band, other producers and professionals that I work with.

Did you perform all the instruments on the tracks, or did you get help from a backing band?

I have a tight knit group of other musicians that help me in studio and live (drums/bass/guitar etc). I play guitar, keys and obviously know production, but it’s so important to have the best musicians around in your circle to help.

You recently released ‘Save My Soul’, the track has a cool vibe towards it with hints of Lana Del Rey and Lady Gaga. Could you explain the concept behind the track?

I wanted to create a song with just this sort of pulse and vibe, and once that came together the lyrics came to mind pretty quick. The song is about how we all need our soul saved at some point. We’re all different but alike in more ways than not. With how crazy and fucked up the world is, sometimes it can get the best of us and we need our soul rejuvenated.

On the album you have remixed ‘Crazy’. What was your decision behind the idea to do this?

I just really like that song, and the remix just made a lot of sense for “Crazy” specifically. I’ve done remixes for a lot of songs off past albums, whether I handle the remix or hire other mixer/producers, and it really helps keep things fresh.

As I have previously alluded to, the album is quite diverse. Tracks like ‘Get Your Gun’ are heavy with nods to grunge, whilst ‘Dirty Love’ are more soulful. I feel both bring a lot out of your voice. Are these elements that went through your mind when you first approached the album?

I didn’t really think about that when writing the album, honestly I’ve always just been into early/mid 90’s rock and 80’s electronic music. Thankfully I came up with some pretty cool ideas that happen to work over the different genres of music. Some of the tracks on the record I intentionally wanted to write, but most of them just came naturally during the writing sessions.

Did you find these songs came to you easily, or was it a lengthy process for you?

It really depends on the song, some came to me so easily. Others were like pulling teeth to put together because so much time passed and I was double-triple checking the songs, wondering if they were perfect. As mentioned though, since there wasn’t a deadline it made things much easier.

This is your 9th studio release. Do you see differences in your approach in comparison to your first album?

It’s an absolutely 180 degree turn from how things were done in the 90’s. I now come equipped with wisdom, technology and badassery that I didn’t have before. Things are a lot more streamlined, with less guesswork and it’s a heck of a lot cheaper to make the music now.

Do you plan a tour in support of the album?

Nothing planned at the moment, but we are thinking of ways to get a live show created for songs off ‘Hellucination’ and my last album ‘Chrome’.

And finally, what are your future plans for Betty Moon?

I’m working on a lot of things that will surprise the fans and industry, so you’ll have to wait and see. For the immediate future though I have a lot of content produced for ‘Hellucination’ including music videos, remixes and a couple more singles.

Jennifer B & The Groove

Jennifer B & The Groove is one of those bands that, well, you really can't define. Encompassing a range of musical genres into their sound, this talented bunch can be an easy go-to for blues, roots-rock or Americana music fans. Fronted by original singer/songwriter Jenifer Lindsey (hence the name), this Texas-based band have worked with the likes of Adrian Meyers, Van Wilks, Patrick Lyons and Mark Jones.

Jennifer B & The Groove is:

Jenifer Lindsey on vocals, keyboard and acoustic guitar.
Dr D on bass and vocals.
Jose Barragan on lead guitar and vocals.
Dan Poole on drums and vocals.

Jennifer B & The Groove has plans to release a full-length album in 2019.

https://www.facebook.com/JenniferBTheGroove/ - Jennifer B & The Groove's Facebook account is a well-maintained one with constant updates on events and other promotional items, like airplay. There are various photos and videos, plus the videos are vlogging-style making it more personal for the visitor. A Reverbnation band profile is available, which is a big pro to view official videos and event listings; however, there isn't a playlist of any sort, and this is disappointing. The account is great, but there aren't links to other social media accounts in the 'about me' section. The background information could be more detailed, but that's just me being a little bit nosy.

http://www.myjenniferbthegroove.com/ - My first thought when viewing the official website was, 'wow, that's busy!' Jennifer B & The Groove have created a site with all the information you could need ranging videos, photographs, a link to their store, event listings, and even a blog! Background information on the band is available on the front page, along with a widget showing all their social media accounts. My one concern is the website theme. While the image is an attractive one, the fact that the text boxes are transparent and in very bold colours makes it slightly overwhelming to view. It's like looking at a picture with a bunch of words placed all over it - pretty, but not something you want to look at for too long.

https://www.instagram.com/jennybgood2/ - This Instagram profile is a very well-maintained one focusing mainly on event promotion. There are some personal photos here and there, which is pleasant to increase fan engagement. Overall, I like this account because of the different types of images and the information placed in the about section.

Silver Spoons

Silver Spoons is an indie pop-rock threesome hailing from Louisville, Kentucky. Their single 'Great Unknown' received regular airplay on several regional radio stations in Louisville during 2014 after the release of their first EP Ready, Set, Stay. In 2015, the band showed a more mature sound with their single 'Falling In Love', and in 2016 the EP Reset made its way to the digital stands.

Silver Spoons is:

Gabe Riggs on guitar and vocals.
Jordan Smith on drums.
Luke Lyons on bass.

Silver Spoons released their latest single 'Heartache' in October 2018.

https://www.facebook.com/SilverSpoonsMusic/ - Silver Spoons Facebook account can be considered well-maintained if you aren't looking for anything other than basic promo. They do have several photographs and videos, but the most recent items are from 2017 - this might be a result of the band not being active for a while. A Reverbnation profile is available with music, gigs and videos, so this is engaging for visitors. The band has provided links to other social media accounts and contact details; however, I would suggest some more detailed background info. I'd also recommend removing the video header. While it is a good promotional feature, not all people are fans of a moving header and the type of video Silver Spoons use can give people with photosensitivity an instant headache.

http://silverspoonsmusic.com/ - The Silver Spoons official website landing page is clean and attractive. It provides background information and promotes their music with links to music streaming sites. If you want any more information on Silver Spoons, you need to click on the closed menu link in the right-hand corner - this is where the problem comes in. Despite the appeal of this site, people who aren't familiar with this setting won't be able to access anything beyond what is on the landing page. I recommended looking at a footer menu joining the links to other social media accounts.

Signal Versus Noise

Founded in 2012 under the name The Starship Renegade, some of the gentlemen from Signal Versus Noise started their musical journey - you'll see what I mean soon enough. After several national tours, a change in the line-up was seen and Signal Versus Noise was born - that's what I mean. A more mature pop-punk sound emerged in 2016 from the Oregon-based band, and in mid-2018 they released their debut full-length album. Influenced by Anberlin, Paramore and Jimmy Eat World, the band has a strong following that grows with every new listener.

Signal Versus Noise is:

Mark Schmidt on vocals.
Alek Kalinowski on guitar.
Josh Nunn on bass.
Nic Quinones on drums (touring).

Signal Versus Noise released their latest single 'Take It From Me' in September 2018.

https://www.facebook.com/signalversusnoise/ - this Facebook account is a well-maintained one with posts made almost every week. The posts don't focus exclusively on promo but have a personal element making them more engaging. Signal Versus Noise have several pictures on the account, but they are primarily promoting events. The videos are sparse, but the ones that are available are vlogging-style and enjoyable. The Reverbnation widget provides a playlist, and the band has a sufficient amount of background information/contact details in their 'about' section. I would recommend links to other social media sites. My biggest problem with the site is the video header and the video posts that automatically begin. It can be good for promotional reasons, but it can also cause a person to close the site if they aren't able to watch the video at that moment. People with photosensitivity can also find moving headers a problem.

https://www.reverbnation.com/Signalversusnoise - Signal Versus Noise's official website is their Reverbnation profile. A very good option to show visitors their music videos, playlist of their music, event listings, a concise background information section and some photographs - pretty much everything you need. However, I could not find any links to other social media accounts.

World5

Who said you need to be in the same country to be part of a band? Using the internet, five professional musicians created the band World5 without being in the same location. Groundbreaking? I'm not sure, but it's terribly fascinating. The band began in 2011, but it is now in its third incarnation spanning three separate continents combining a Swedish bass player, a Swedish drummer, a German guitarist and trumpeter, and two more guitarists (one of them singing lead vocals) from the US of A.

World5 is:

Lou Evans on guitar and lead vocals.
Steffen Goeres on guitar and trumpet.
Jimmy Olsson on bass.
Joe Gavito on guitar and keyboard.
Reimund Breitfeld on drums and percussion.

https://www.facebook.com/World5band/ - World5's Facebook account is not well-maintained, but it isn't poorly maintained either. The posts are months apart, but this may be coinciding with band activity or inactivity. The photos and videos are exclusively promotional, but there are several music videos for people to view. The Reverbnation widget provides access to the albums, along with videos, shows and press reviews. Background information is sufficient with links to different social media accounts and contact details. The one problem I have is the video header, which seems to be a growing trend among bands. This header isn't as 'flashy' as others showing only photographs with text; however, it is still a problem if you have a poor Wi-Fi connection, are not a fan of video headers or have photosensitivity.

http://www.world5music.com/ - the official website is a highly informative one with a blog keeping people updated on their news, full contact details, extensive information the band, access to their music, access to their merchandise, and even links to different radio stations. All of their social media accounts can be accessed from the website. I don't really have any complaints.

https://www.instagram.com/world5music/ - World5 has an Instagram account with information about the band and a link to their official website. The only problem is there aren't any images on this profile. Isn't Instagram a photo sharing website?
