November Music Showcase: Marbin Review

About a year ago, I met and interviewed the band Marbin, a high-energy Rock/Jazz hybrid that had impressed me with songs like, 'African Shabtay' and 'Redline' on their social media/YouTube video campaign the year before. Since my first Marbin show, I have been lucky enough to see them three more times and we have become fast friends; sharing many musical interests and debating the ins-and-outs of the music industry on various occasions.

As musicians, Marbin is growing exponentially; each member giving it they’re all on stage, every night, traveling the county and the world. Their musical influences and growth can be heard in their most recent compositions, which lean more into psychedelic and ballad like movements; leaving more room for improvisation and modulation within live performances. Marbin is constantly evolving, adding new intros, outros and transitions into their already solid repertoire.

Their newest unreleased album titled, "Israeli Jazz" seems to have woken more creativity inside this band, as they play these new songs with a raw and driving intensity. 'Israeli Jazz' the title track from the newest album, is hard and transient, smooth and razor sharp. I look forward to hearing the entire album and doing a full review when it is completed.

Dani Rabin shows exceptional guitar skills, on par, if not greater than, many guitarists in the progressive Jazz and Jam scene. Dani is always growing and expanding his musical education, incorporating those Gypsy Jazz scales he loves so much, into the music he constantly creates. Danny Markovitch is the backbone of this group and although he stands to the side during solos, he is always solemnly contemplating what comes next and critically evaluating every note. Jon Nadel is the perfect bass player for this band and although, he isn't an original member, he keeps both Danny and Dani in check while bringing a masterful bass technique and skill on his fret-to-fretless bass guitar. The heartbeat of Marbin is drummer Blake Jiracek, who is always in his own world, tirelessly keeping up with the other members and pushing the rhythmic structure further and further.

While Marbin, hasn't reached the peak of their success, little by little, they are gaining attention and amassing a loyal following just waiting for them to explode on to the scene but which scene? Finding that direction is highly important to what Marbin could become in the future. I am sure that they will succeed in any musical route/niche they decide to pursue and I will be along for the ride.

I am looking forward to another Marbin performance in Harrisonburg, Virginia on April 4 at the Golden Pony. If you live in or around the area, feel free to contact me and we can meet up! If not, check this band out when they come to you locally, I am always truly blown away.

Skinners Lane Review / Interview

At first listen to Skinner’s Lane, you are hit with the heavy rock inspired sound, that one would often associate with the likes of Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, or the rock movement of the 70s… but don't be fooled, there is more to this band than the heavy guitar riffs and Ian Curtis like crooning. There is a certain profoundness to the lyrics and the carefully constructed melody that keeps you hooked to the sound.

To My Face is a raw and emotional song. The fast paced and reminiscent punk rock vibe combined with Zak Langfords raw and untamed vocals provide for a wild listening experience. The layered instruments create an even harsher sound while the contemporary lyrics expose the true nature of human beings and how society has taught us to judge or be judged. The chorus says “say it to my face” which many people don't do as they are afraid. Towards the end of the song, a guitar solo replaces the voice to create a melodic instrumental and it creates a new layer on the song all together. The solo was a needed aspect of the song, and Skinner’s Lane did not disappoint. Drummer James Kerr keeps the song moving forwards in an intoxicating manner.

All of you I'm sure, have been on a wild night out, in a foreign place where you don't know many people. Dear Brighton talks about the emotions behind putting yourself out there in a new place.

The opening riff is one that you can get caught in the trap of humming for days, but not entirely minding about. The lead singer Zak shows us a softer side to his personality and vocals with the soft and mellifluous sound. The song itself represents a night out. It starts of at a slower pace to match that as the preparation to go out. Throughout the song it gets faster to show the night out, but towards the end it slows down and this represents the coming down after the high. The bridge creates a needed pause and adds a layer of sophistication to the song. The carefully constructed bass line by Rob Holland keeps the listener spellbind and seduced.

The two songs, although melodically similar, are in two different ballparks. Dear Brighton to me comes form a more self conscious Musician then that of the writer of to my face, even though they are written by the same person. The difference in the themes for the songs shows an acceptance for who the band is and who they used to be, which for the audience is a wonderful thing to hear. Music is an art and at the end of the day not everyone is going to like it. To really make it as a Musician you have to believe in yourselves, which is what Skinner’s Lane has managed to achieve.

Overall, the band Skinner’s Lane is on the rise and is one to watch out for. If you are feeling Low, pop on Dear Brighton and you will be alright in no time. If you feel defiant then the anthem for you is to my face. I'm looking forward towards the bright future that is and always will be Skinner’s Lane.

Skinner’s Lane Interview

1. How do you know The Old School Project?

I found out about Old School Project through a friend of mine, Jacob Solarek, whose band, ‘The Cubes,’ got a really awesome EP review. I ended up looking at the site and loved the ethos regarding supporting and reporting about creative projects going on all across the world.

2. Who are your influences when writing music?

Black Keys, Franz Ferdinand, Royal Blood, Arctic Monkeys, Jack White are probably my biggest influences when it comes to writing much of the Skinner's Lane songs. However, I listen to lots of different music ranging from Duke Ellington to Wulfpeck. There are also plenty of artists from 60s and 70s that have had an influence on my writing, particularly riffs, such as Black Sabbath, Cream and Led Zeppelin.Living in Liverpool the past three years has also had a profound effect on my music. The city had such a rich live scene so I always try to go out and see live music when I can and it has definitely influenced the music I write.

3. I heard that you are going on a small hiatus, what’s the reasoning behind this?

At the minute we are just taking a break from playing with each other. We’ve gigging regularly since our debut gig on March 2017 and so we just needed a break from playing live so we can come back with newer and fresher ideas than before.

4. Are there any collaborations in your future, and if so with who?

So far Skinner’s Lane haven’t really collaborated with any artists. However I’m always open to working with other people and trying ideas out and it’s always exciting to try new things with different people.

5. How did the band form?

I first met James at Liverpool Sound City back in 2016 but had no idea we were going to end up playing a band together! He then ended up coming to the same university, where we also met Rob. We all loved riff melodic music and ended up starting a band that would

6. Can we expect any new music in the near future?

Absolutely! Keep your eyes pealed on any of the Skinner’s Lane website and social media in the next few months, we have some very exciting things to come.

7. Are you full time musicians or do you have jobs on the side?

Currently Rob, James and I study at The Liverpool Institute Performing Arts with aspirations of becoming full time musicians hopefully in the next few years. Rob has a part-time job on the side and then he also session plays for other artist as do James and myself.

8. What is your ultimate goal with music, fame and fortune or a good time?

World domination! I’d say our ultimate goal would be regularly touring and playing some of the biggest festival around the UK, such as Latitude, T in the Park and of course Glastonbury. It’s important to us that we write and perform music though that is both true to ourselves and the band.

9. Is the writing of the music a collaborative project or is there a certain person who pioneers it?

I pretty much write all the material and bring it to the group and we make appropriate changes where needed. We try the music to be both adventurous and catchy and importantly we try make each song we write stand apart from one another.

10. I love Dear Brighton, care to explain the writing and thought processes behind it?

Wow, really glad you like the tune thank you! It’s one of the first songs I wrote for the band and the first night-out experiences in Liverpool, which has one of the best nightclub scenes around and lots of really nice, great people. This song however was about me being disillusioned with a group of people I had just met and it expresses the feeling of confusion and weird vibes I was getting that night. I tried to make the song forward moving with it’s instrumentation but wanted to give a weird flavouring too, particularly in the bridge, to take the listener in this journey.

Jennifer B & The Groove

Jennifer B & The Groove is one of those bands that, well, you really can't define. Encompassing a range of musical genres into their sound, this talented bunch can be an easy go-to for blues, roots-rock or Americana music fans. Fronted by original singer/songwriter Jenifer Lindsey (hence the name), this Texas-based band have worked with the likes of Adrian Meyers, Van Wilks, Patrick Lyons and Mark Jones.

Jennifer B & The Groove is:

Jenifer Lindsey on vocals, keyboard and acoustic guitar.
Dr D on bass and vocals.
Jose Barragan on lead guitar and vocals.
Dan Poole on drums and vocals.

Jennifer B & The Groove has plans to release a full-length album in 2019.

https://www.facebook.com/JenniferBTheGroove/ - Jennifer B & The Groove's Facebook account is a well-maintained one with constant updates on events and other promotional items, like airplay. There are various photos and videos, plus the videos are vlogging-style making it more personal for the visitor. A Reverbnation band profile is available, which is a big pro to view official videos and event listings; however, there isn't a playlist of any sort, and this is disappointing. The account is great, but there aren't links to other social media accounts in the 'about me' section. The background information could be more detailed, but that's just me being a little bit nosy.

http://www.myjenniferbthegroove.com/ - My first thought when viewing the official website was, 'wow, that's busy!' Jennifer B & The Groove have created a site with all the information you could need ranging videos, photographs, a link to their store, event listings, and even a blog! Background information on the band is available on the front page, along with a widget showing all their social media accounts. My one concern is the website theme. While the image is an attractive one, the fact that the text boxes are transparent and in very bold colours makes it slightly overwhelming to view. It's like looking at a picture with a bunch of words placed all over it - pretty, but not something you want to look at for too long.

https://www.instagram.com/jennybgood2/ - This Instagram profile is a very well-maintained one focusing mainly on event promotion. There are some personal photos here and there, which is pleasant to increase fan engagement. Overall, I like this account because of the different types of images and the information placed in the about section.

Silver Spoons

Silver Spoons is an indie pop-rock threesome hailing from Louisville, Kentucky. Their single 'Great Unknown' received regular airplay on several regional radio stations in Louisville during 2014 after the release of their first EP Ready, Set, Stay. In 2015, the band showed a more mature sound with their single 'Falling In Love', and in 2016 the EP Reset made its way to the digital stands.

Silver Spoons is:

Gabe Riggs on guitar and vocals.
Jordan Smith on drums.
Luke Lyons on bass.

Silver Spoons released their latest single 'Heartache' in October 2018.

https://www.facebook.com/SilverSpoonsMusic/ - Silver Spoons Facebook account can be considered well-maintained if you aren't looking for anything other than basic promo. They do have several photographs and videos, but the most recent items are from 2017 - this might be a result of the band not being active for a while. A Reverbnation profile is available with music, gigs and videos, so this is engaging for visitors. The band has provided links to other social media accounts and contact details; however, I would suggest some more detailed background info. I'd also recommend removing the video header. While it is a good promotional feature, not all people are fans of a moving header and the type of video Silver Spoons use can give people with photosensitivity an instant headache.

http://silverspoonsmusic.com/ - The Silver Spoons official website landing page is clean and attractive. It provides background information and promotes their music with links to music streaming sites. If you want any more information on Silver Spoons, you need to click on the closed menu link in the right-hand corner - this is where the problem comes in. Despite the appeal of this site, people who aren't familiar with this setting won't be able to access anything beyond what is on the landing page. I recommended looking at a footer menu joining the links to other social media accounts.

Signal Versus Noise

Founded in 2012 under the name The Starship Renegade, some of the gentlemen from Signal Versus Noise started their musical journey - you'll see what I mean soon enough. After several national tours, a change in the line-up was seen and Signal Versus Noise was born - that's what I mean. A more mature pop-punk sound emerged in 2016 from the Oregon-based band, and in mid-2018 they released their debut full-length album. Influenced by Anberlin, Paramore and Jimmy Eat World, the band has a strong following that grows with every new listener.

Signal Versus Noise is:

Mark Schmidt on vocals.
Alek Kalinowski on guitar.
Josh Nunn on bass.
Nic Quinones on drums (touring).

Signal Versus Noise released their latest single 'Take It From Me' in September 2018.

https://www.facebook.com/signalversusnoise/ - this Facebook account is a well-maintained one with posts made almost every week. The posts don't focus exclusively on promo but have a personal element making them more engaging. Signal Versus Noise have several pictures on the account, but they are primarily promoting events. The videos are sparse, but the ones that are available are vlogging-style and enjoyable. The Reverbnation widget provides a playlist, and the band has a sufficient amount of background information/contact details in their 'about' section. I would recommend links to other social media sites. My biggest problem with the site is the video header and the video posts that automatically begin. It can be good for promotional reasons, but it can also cause a person to close the site if they aren't able to watch the video at that moment. People with photosensitivity can also find moving headers a problem.

https://www.reverbnation.com/Signalversusnoise - Signal Versus Noise's official website is their Reverbnation profile. A very good option to show visitors their music videos, playlist of their music, event listings, a concise background information section and some photographs - pretty much everything you need. However, I could not find any links to other social media accounts.

World5

Who said you need to be in the same country to be part of a band? Using the internet, five professional musicians created the band World5 without being in the same location. Groundbreaking? I'm not sure, but it's terribly fascinating. The band began in 2011, but it is now in its third incarnation spanning three separate continents combining a Swedish bass player, a Swedish drummer, a German guitarist and trumpeter, and two more guitarists (one of them singing lead vocals) from the US of A.

World5 is:

Lou Evans on guitar and lead vocals.
Steffen Goeres on guitar and trumpet.
Jimmy Olsson on bass.
Joe Gavito on guitar and keyboard.
Reimund Breitfeld on drums and percussion.

https://www.facebook.com/World5band/ - World5's Facebook account is not well-maintained, but it isn't poorly maintained either. The posts are months apart, but this may be coinciding with band activity or inactivity. The photos and videos are exclusively promotional, but there are several music videos for people to view. The Reverbnation widget provides access to the albums, along with videos, shows and press reviews. Background information is sufficient with links to different social media accounts and contact details. The one problem I have is the video header, which seems to be a growing trend among bands. This header isn't as 'flashy' as others showing only photographs with text; however, it is still a problem if you have a poor Wi-Fi connection, are not a fan of video headers or have photosensitivity.

http://www.world5music.com/ - the official website is a highly informative one with a blog keeping people updated on their news, full contact details, extensive information the band, access to their music, access to their merchandise, and even links to different radio stations. All of their social media accounts can be accessed from the website. I don't really have any complaints.

https://www.instagram.com/world5music/ - World5 has an Instagram account with information about the band and a link to their official website. The only problem is there aren't any images on this profile. Isn't Instagram a photo sharing website?

Vajra

During a self-imposed exile in India, Annamaria Pinna - child of a school teacher and former monk - was encouraged to learn about her surroundings and question her reality. In 2011, Pinna formed Vajra with Pat Reilly on guitars, Erek Smith on bass, and Shu Inaba on drums. Described as a 'tapestry of dark and hypnotic, foreboding and mysterious lullabies', Vajra helps listeners experience her music on a high plane. Having played various festivals (including SXSW and Loudwire Music Festival), Varja has also received several awards from Rolling Stone, Loudwire Magazine, and Sirius XM Radio to name but a few.

Varja is:

Anna Maria Pinna on keys, flute, waterphone and lead vocals.
Pat Reilly on guitar.
Erek Smith on bass.
Shu Inaba on drums and percussion.

Varja releases singles on their Patreon page regularly. The latest was released on October 31st as a Halloween celebratory demo.

https://www.facebook.com/vajratemple/ - Varja's Facebook profile is a very engaging one with regular posts providing more than promotional content. The account is evident of her unique personality, and all of the videos and pictures allow visitors insight into Varja's music life. An attractive profile picture, with an EPK widget where visitors can listen to a playlist, view music videos and peruse tour dates. My one criticism is there aren't links to other social media accounts, but there is a link to her official website which is helpful.

http://www.thevajratemple.com/ - an attractive website with a landing page showing all necessary information. If you scroll down, you will see their featured single music video, along with upcoming events and press information. If you wish to delve further into the 'Varja Temple', there are links to socials and EPK profiles. No complaints, just that the links are a little difficult to notice.

https://www.instagram.com/vajratemple/ - as I've mentioned before, I'm not expert when it comes to Instagram; however, I have a fair understanding of what makes a good profile. This is a good profile. A decent balance between professional and personal images, along with some videos for variety. A short bio in the personal information section with a link to the official website makes it easy to find more information.

Lucentia

Lucentia is an electronica band hailing from Fort Wayne, Indianapolis. Quite new on the scene, Lucentia released their debut single, 'The Machine', in September of this year.

Lucentia is:

Chris Nunley
Cassandra Nunley

https://www.facebook.com/lucentiamusic/ - Lucentia's Facebook was only opened in January, which may contribute to its poor maintenance. Only a few posts are available promoting their releases. While there are links to different social media accounts, and a contact email, no background information is available for the band. I would recommend updating this to give visitors some insight into the artist.

https://lucentia.bandcamp.com/ - the official website is Lucentia's bandcamp site. As with the social media account, no information is available on the site, only the basic details. The band, obviously, wants to promote their releases more than share details of the band.

Thread The Lariat

All the way from San Diego, California, we have Thread The Lariat. A five-piece rock 'n' roll band, this group has been described as a 'refreshing take on modern progressive rock'. Playing venues throughout Southern California, Thread The Lariat has developed a unique and impressive sound drawing their listeners to impressive live shows.

Thread The Lariat is:

Collin Davis on lead vocals.
Douglas Bell on guitar and backing vocals.
Alexander Brennan on guitar.
Aaron Torske on bass.
Brian McGee on drums.

Thread The Lariat are releasing their latest single in November 2018. Their music video for 'Break The Fall' was released in October.

https://www.facebook.com/threadthelariat/ - this Facebook account is quite well-maintained with regular posts promoting shows and single releases, along with images hinting at new music (keep fans interested!). An array of photographs are available ranging from gig posters to live pictures which is engaging for visitors. Only a few videos are available, but what is available is enjoyable. I would recommend placing more background information in the 'about' section, along with links to other social media accounts.

https://www.instagram.com/threadthelariat/ - Thread The Lariat's Instagram is a well-maintained and highly engaging one. Not only are there promotional pictures, but there are also some personal images giving it a good balance for fans to view. A link to their YouTube account in the information section is also very useful.

http://threadthelariat.com/ - the official website is an easy to navigate one with music played when you reach the landing page. It's well laid-out with an easy-to-find menu. Links to social media accounts are available, and this is a footer widget so it's found on all pages. A good website, although a bit dark.

Ellanoure

Ellanoure is a five-piece band hailing from Biloxi, South Mississippi. Made up of two sets of brothers, Ellanoure combines post-rock instrumentals with indie rhythms resulting in a unique sound for their listeners. The group released their debut album, Things More Purely, in 2018.

Ellanoure is:

Jared Kozlowski on vocals and guitar.
Heath Riddle on guitar.
Brian Kozlowski on keys.
Shawn Riddle on bass.
Shawn Kozlowski on drums.

https://www.facebook.com/ellanoure/ - Ellanoure's Facebook page is a relatively well-maintained one, but the information is lacking. While they have contact details and links to their merchandise store, it would be helpful to include an official website (if they have one). Moreover, the Instagram link is broken. A band profile is available offering fans access to a playlist, videos and gig dates. I also enjoy the different images available ranging from live shows to posters. My only concern is the broken link and a need for more information - then again, that's just me.

Scott Thiessen

Scott Thiessen is a Canadian singer-songwriter swooning his audience with soulful pop music - emphasis on the soul part. He graduated from Seneca College's Songwriting programme in 2017, and made it through the Independent Music Production programme in 2018. So, he's not only handsome and talented, but he's pretty smart as well! His influences are Sam Smith, Adele and Adam Levine.

Scott Thiessen released his debut single 'Lips Don't Move' in October 2018. He is currently working on a debut album.

https://www.facebook.com/ScottThiessenMusic/ - Scott's Facebook account is very well-maintained with a post every week, if not every day. The posts are mainly promotional, but he uses informal language to engage with his fans. There is a plethora of live photos and some amusing cover videos, so it's an enjoyable audio-visual experience. My one complaint is the lack of background information. He has no links to other social media accounts and no contact information.

https://www.instagram.com/scott_thiessen/ - Scott's Instagram is also well-maintained with mostly promotional images, but there are some personal photos here and there. It keeps fans updated on what is happening in his life, and I suppose that is the purpose of Instagram. A suitable amount of information available on the page including links to his official website and a contact email.

https://www.scottthiessen.ca/ - a very neat and concise website that is easy to navigate. The landing page contains a basic biography with links to social media accounts, as well as a gallery and easily accessible menu. I enjoy the colours and simple background image promoting his single - it's not overpowering using neutral tones. A more detailed background might be beneficial for press purposes.

They have been around for over 30 years, yet it was not until 1995 that the band released their debut single “Alone without You” The band create hushed vocals, with melodic guitars and softly played keyboards that reminds me of those Britpop acts of the Nineties’ like Pulp and Lightening Seeds.

I was impressed with the format of the page with colourful pictures and a catchy logo that ultimately wanted me to read more. There is a nice review of the band’s latest live show plus a Spotify player linked to their catalogue, the about section is jam packed with enough information to keep the average visitor educated. There are some great pics of the band in colourful outlets, as well as a couple of videos. I feel the energy of their performances reflect the outlook of the site.

She decided to release a collection of singles in 2018 based on her influences as diverse as Queen, Pink Floyd and Pink. Isle of Wish has a strong interest in Poetry, Music and writing.

Isle of Wish is new to music, but has selected musicians from Bali to help record her debut album, which is set for release in 2019.

https://isleofwish.com/home

This is a nice introduction to the singer. The colour coordination reflects the singer’s personality there is a nice bio and a player to a debut single. There are no videos, or photos

https://www.facebook.com/IsleOfWish/

This is a very personal and engaging account that appeals to the fans. There are regular posts on philosophy, Music, as well as interests. There is a nice pic of Isle of wish singing, with photos of quotes, and a video of her latest single. This feels more of her own page, rather than that of a singer. I feel this is a good thing in attracting those new fans.

https://www.instagram.com/isleofwish/

This is another very personal account that reflects the journey of a young girl. There are motivational quotes, random pics of luggage and clothes, as well as some more intimate ones of the singer recording in the studio. Overall, this feels like she is more in touch with her fanbase.

Lu Ruenes

Lu Ruenes AKA Lucia Ruenes is Pop singer/songwriter from Spain. She was inspired to start writing music by reading her grandmother’s poems. She wrote her first song at 15, and by 21 she had released two albums. Lu Ruenes attended Berklee Scholl of Music, which she graduated from last year. Lu Ruenes composes lovely uplifting Pop songs with beautifully arranged melodies.

https://www.luruenes.com/

This is another lovely site to visit. There is a simple colour co-ordination set against the backdrop of a large photo of Lu Ruenes. The site is easy to access with a Spotify widget that plays her latest track. There are some even more striking images of Lu Ruenes performing with an infectious smile. There is a nice Bio, personally written by the singer, as well as videos of her in performance. I enjoyed reading through it because it felt like an introduction to the singer’s personality,

https://www.facebook.com/luruenesoficial/

This is another well managed site that engages the reader, as well as accentuate Lu Ruenes’ personality. There are nice pictures...including one on a camel. Videos of Lu Ruenes in concert, as well as regular posts that feel like it truly connects with the reader. The only negative is it is written in Spanish, which may be an issue for those who can’t translate.

Mark Newman

Mark Newman is a well- respected singer/songwriter/ Guitarist from New York. He has developed a reputation for touring with legendary musicians like Willy DeVille and Sam Moore. His music style has been compared to Duane Allman and Lowell George. Newman plays Guitar, Dobro and Mandolin on his two albums to date. Newman’s music is heartfelt Americana with some enchanting melodies.

Mark Newman released his Brussels EP in March 2015

http://www.marknewman.us

This website has a very basic design, which allows easy access to browse. The front page comes with a nice bio on Newman’s musical achievements, as well as releases. There are a few links to the singer’s Reverbnation and myspaces. You can find a dropdown menu on the left-hand side with a photo gallery and music player. My only argument is that it doesn’t seem like it is updated.

https://www.facebook.com/marknewmanmusic/

This account is designed mainly to update visitors on upcoming gigs. There are no videos, or any interaction between the singer and fans. There are some good photos of mark with his band.

Modern Mimes

Modern Mimes is an American music artist duo from Fort Lauderdale, FL. The band consists of Adi Elcida Hernandez on Vocals/Guitar/sampling & Ernesto Perez on double neck bass. The duo play “Future Goth”, a self-coined term to describe their use of heavy metal guitars, thought provoking lyrics and gothic overture. They have slowly been building national recognition with their debut album Wake Up, which was released last year they followed this up with a Type O Negative approved cover of “I Don’t Want to Be Me” which the band endorsed, and subsequently promoted. This helped achieved 27 thousand views on YouTube, as well as coverage on loud wire.com. They have spent the last two years appearing at notable festivals across the States & made tv appearances on balcony tv

The duo has performed 2 years in a row at Riptide Music Festival, the biggest two-day Alternative and Classic Hits music festival in Fort Lauderdale. They also toured the Southeastern United States, SXSW, and have a session on Balcony TV.

Modern Mimes will release follow up album “The Grey” in The Fall of 2018

Modern Mimes are;

Adi Elcida Hernandez- Vocals/Guitar/Sampling

Ernesto Perez- Double Neck Bass

https://www.modernmimes.com/home

This is a well-managed account for fans of old, and new. The overall format instantly attracts the visitor with a bright blue backdrop set against an odd image of two clay heads seemingly entwined. This helps reflect the nature of the duo’s music. The site is also easy to scroll down with a Spotify playlist, YouTube music videos and photos that portray the duo in all their unusual stage attire.

https://www.facebook.com/modernmimesmusic/

This is an attractive account. There is a nice background photo of the duo with regular posts on gigs and music releases. There are some nice music videos, as well as some photos of the band performing, and in the model studio.

Home is West

Home Is West where formed by two old friends in California. The duo- Robert ( Vocals/Guitar) & Andrew ( Bass) have been touring mates for over twenty years, beginning in metal bands across the states. The band quickly recruited Corey on drums and a new bassist, Jim to get fully started they have spent the past 5 years touring the Southern Cali coastline, appearing on Internet radio and FM stations. The band play heartfelt Indie/ rock with swirling melodies and catchy hooks.

The band released an EP in 2017

http://www.homeiswest.com

This is a basic page with compact information and all the accessories needed for fans. There is a dropdown menu that is useful. There is a concise about section, a couple of videos, and some nice colourful pictures for visitors to view. Overall, the site is not an attractive prospect for new fans.

https://www.facebook.com/homeiswest/

This is a more updated account. There are a couple of videos that appeal to fans, as well as some nicely taken pictures, and regular posts, including big news. I feel this is more accessible for growing a new fanbase.

The Boxtones

The Box tones are a five- piece Scottish Canadian Rock/Pop act with a growing reputation amongst the elite. The band recently singed to Universal Music following high profile support slots alongside such notable musicians like Liam Gallagher, Pharrell Willams, The Chemical Brothers the Who, Blur, Florence and The Machine etc. This repertoire has earned the band several award wins including the Ahlan! Hot 100 title, and two- time Hype and Time out winners. The Boxtones have also had luck in entering competitions, which resulted in them winning The Rolling Stone Street to Stage. And if this is not impressive enough, they have earned endorsements from prestigious brands such as Shure, Vic Firth, Mesa Boogie and Protection Racket.

The Boxtones create upbeat music with a Celtic flavour, the band’s progressive sound and catchy choruses are bound to be a hit with new fans.

http://www.boxtonesband.com/

This is a very professional account I feel is designed with fans in mind. The band’s logo instantly attracts the eye to want to browse through. I liked how everything was conveniently placed that a visitor would want to read (news, bio, tour dates etc.). This made it easier to find the categories needed to learn more about the band. There is a news section that gives updates on upcoming tours, a link to the band’s YouTube videos, as well as some lovely images of the band performing on stage. I enjoyed reading the press section of all the magazine articles they have appeared in, as well as a blog on their weekly reports. There are regular tour updates, as well as links to all of their social media accounts.

https://www.facebook.com/theboxtones/

This is an attractive site form The Boxtones. The background picture of the band instantly grabs the eye’s attention. There are daily updates from the band on tour in Dubai, as well as promotional appearances. This is another professional effort from the band, which will sustain the growth of a new fanbase. I liked how the videos were categorized I.e. summer vacations, a hashtag campaign etc. This showed an engagement with the fans, as well as a photo section. This is another strong point of the site because it shows different aspects of the band from rehearsal, stage, around town, which opens up to fans.

Eight Awesome Artists To Keep Your Ears Happy

Vihads21

Vihads21 is a rock alternative and new age five-piece hailing from West Sumatera, Indonesia. Since 2017, the band has collaborated with various session players and artists in the music industry. Vihads21's debut album 'EXPerice' was released in 2018.

Vihad21 is:

Rahmat Ulfriansyah
Aga Pratama Alamsyah
Ivan Mahya Deva
Oka Yusdi
Ibnu Aldian

Vihad21 plans on releasing an album trilogy over the next three years.

https://www.facebook.com/vhads21/ - Vihad21's Facebook profile is well-maintained from a promotional perspective posting an update whenever a new gig or online presence is released. There are few photos and even fewer videos, but a link to their band profile is available with access to a playlist and gigs. No contact details, background information or links to other social media is available and this should be reconsidered.

https://www.instagram.com/vihads21/ - the band's Instagram is as informative as their Facebook - not informative at all. While it has some images, they are promotional with some personal sketches here and there. Despite the growing number of followers, the profile is not well-maintained.

http://vhads21.com/ - Vihad21 redeem themselves with their official website. The website has a landing page with a playlist, videos, gig details, photographs and a biography section. The biography is lacking, but it does have some details. The menu is easy to locate and there are notable links to social media accounts. One item that is not available is a contact email or number.

Jimmie Something

Jimmie Something is a singer/songwriter from Zug, Switzerland. His music falls into the indie-folk genre and has been described as warm and addictive.

https://www.facebook.com/jimmiesomething/ - Jimmie's Facebook account is very poorly maintained from a fan engagement perspective, but he does keep people updated regarding gigs. Only one video is available, a few promotional photographs, and minimal background information with no contact details. No links to other social media accounts, but there is a link to his Reverbnation profile. For more fan engagement, it may be worthwhile reconsidering placing more information on Facebook.

https://www.reverbnation.com/jimmiesomething - this profile provides a playlist, gig listings, some live photos and one featured video - the minimum you would expect from a Reverbnation account. No background information is available, but he does have a link to a social media account. It is recommended that he place some more background information and contact details. While the mail button can be used, a further email is beneficial.

The Red Moons

The Red Moons is an alternative rock/grunge band hailing from Chicago, Illinois. The threesome started their musical journey in 2014 and they released their debut album, Out of Touch, in 2015. The debut was followed by A Heightened Sense in 2017, and their third album Eat Your Own was recently released in October 2018. The band has played with acts such as Blood People, Mac Sabbath and Galactic Empire.

The Red Moons is:

Anthony Sarillo on guitar and vocals.
Eric Olsen on bass and vocals.
Lance Olsen on drums and vocals.

https://www.facebook.com/theredmoons/ - The Red Moons' Facebook profile is relatively well-maintained promoting gigs, album releases and press appearances when available. Considering the profile was opened in 2014, there are not many photographs or videos. One beneficial feature on this profile is the subscription item on the menu - not seen on many Facebook accounts. The background information is sufficient, and the band provides ample links to other social media with contact details.

https://www.instagram.com/theredmoons/ - The Red Moons' Instagram account has a pleasant balance between professional and personal images making it ideal for fan engagement. The posts are not consistent, nor is there much information in the details section; however, there is a link to their Bandcamp profile.

https://theredmoons.bandcamp.com/ - The Red Moons use their Bandcamp account as an official website, which is useful; however, it does not offer background information or contact details. The site is based primarily around playlists and discography - I suppose this is what music promotion is all about after all. Links are available to social media accounts, so this can be used to find contact details.

Charley Reynolds

Charley Reynolds is a country music singer/songwriter from Orlando, Florida. She released her debut single 'Underneath the Stars' in 2015 on iTunes, followed shortly by three more tracks in 2016 - 'Get Over Yourself', 'Stupid Love Song' and 'Need You By My Side'. Charley released her debut album, Kickin' Up Dust, in May 2017 and held the album's release concert on the same night at the Walt Disney Amphitheatre. Charley lists her influences as Carrie Underwood, Shania Twain and Miranda Lambert.

Charley Reynolds' latest EP, Kissed Us Goodbye, was released in April 2018.

https://www.facebook.com/charlyreynoldsofficial/ - it is easy to see that Charley is one of the social media generation by her Facebook profile. The account is very well-maintained with both promotional posts and fun posts on an almost daily basis. She has numerous photographs, but the videos from performances and some 'at home singing cos I was bored' are the more entertaining. The biography is lacking, but she has links to other social media accounts with contact details. A band profile is available on the account with access to a playlist.

http://www.charlyreynolds.com/ - if the Facebook profile lets you down in any way, this is where Charley's official website makes amends in a big way! All you could want short of Charley giving you a hug is available on the official site. Many photographs and videos, along with album releases and interviews is available on the site. A playlist can be accessed, as well as merchandise on the easy to navigate menu. The pink theme is apt as it expresses Charley's bubbly and sweet nature. Contact details are available, but there are no links to social media accounts and the EPK requires a password to access.

Eryn

Eryn Shewell, more commonly referred to as Eryn, is one of the modern vocalists who have discovered that 'retro pop' sound. Hailing from Maryland, Eryn combines the genres of blues, country, rock and jazz to form a thrilling soulful sound for her listeners. Described as a seductive range changing voice, Eryn embraces all opportunities to write music and perform. As part of The Eryn Shewell Band, Eryn won several awards including the Top Blues Band and Top Female Vocalist Asbury Music Awards in 2011. In 2013, Eryn began a new band called Eryn Shewell and the Whiskey Devils. Eryn released her debut EP, Lady E, was released in 2018.

https://www.facebook.com/Eryn.LadyE/ - Eryn's Facebook profile focuses on fan engagement with regular posts that are not only promotional but personal content as well. Numerous photographs and videos are available showing Eryn onstage, with other artists, posing with friends and promotional items. The profile has an extensive biography with links to other social media accounts; there are also contact details and gig listings. I don't see any problem with this account, but could recommend the addition of a band profile or subscription tab.

http://erynofficial.com/ - What I find adorable is the immediate kiss you receive when opening the Eryn official website - click the website and you'll know what I mean. The website is easy to navigate with access to a playlist, a subscription widget and a clearly defined menu. Links to social media accounts are available, and the colour scheme matches Eryn's EP design. It's well laid-out and aesthetically pleasing with pictures pinned to the top of the page.

Affinity

Affinity is a rock foursome hailing from the Carolinas in the United States. The group began in 2015 as a small creative project between two members, but by the end of 2016 Affinity was starting to bloom. Since completing their line-up, these young men have worked tirelessly resulting in their debut album, Lead The Way, being released in September 2018.

Affinity is:

Matthew Lowry on vocals and guitar.
Jesse Jones on guitar and vocals.
Wendell Martin on bass.
Rodrick Locklear on drums.

https://www.facebook.com/AffinityNCBand/ - Affinity's Facebook is a very well-maintained one with regular posts promoting gigs, releases and interviews. The focus here is fan engagement when you look at the post style, the types of photographs and the videos uploaded. The account is professional, but there are videos helping you gain a 'behind the scenes' perspective of Affinity which is quite enjoyable. A band profile is available offering a playlist, videos and gig listing. While I am not a fan of video headers, this one is pleasing because it is both subtle and artistic. My one concern is the lack of links to other social media accounts (if any) and no contact details.

https://affinity.bandcamp.com/ - Affinity's Bandcamp provides basic background information with no links to social media accounts, which is disappointing; however, there is a contact link available. As a Bandcamp profile, the emphasis is on merchandise sales and Affinity provides this option with access to their debut album.

Strange Heart

When I read Strange Heart's biography, I think of some Shakespearean play. Two unlikely characters experiencing tragedy only to come together and build something bigger than themselves overcoming all woe and whatnot, and whatnot, and whatnot. You see, Bryce Carrol-Coe returned to the west coast after receiving a heart transplant searching for a place to sleep and a fellow musician. Josh Clemens arrived a few weeks later to be near family a second (not literally a second) before two of his sisters died from cancer. Their fates intertwined and Bryce helped Josh to bring his reflective songs to life; thus, Strange Heart was born.

Strange Heart is:

Josh Clemens on guitar and lead vocals.
Bryce Carrol-Coe on lead guitar and vocals.
Mike Schneider on bass and vocals.
Bobby Jankowski on drums.

Strange Heart release their debut album, Sinking Ships, on November 30th.

https://www.facebook.com/strangeheartband/ - Strange Heart's Facebook is a well-maintained account with regular posts promoting press articles, releases and gigs. There is a strong focus on fan engagement with the posts being conversational and interactive. The account has several live photographs, but it is the videos that make the account most enjoyable showing many 'behind the scenes' features. My one concern is the lack of contact details in the 'about' section. While there are links to other social media accounts and an official website, no email is available as a contact to the band.

https://www.instagram.com/strangeheartrockband/ - Strange Heart's Instagram has a good balance between personal and promotional images with more videos than photos. The account does not seem to be well-maintained, despite being created in February. It may be useful to post more regularly, but the video element does make it enjoyable for fans even if posts are only once per month.

https://www.strangeheartmusic.com/ - the official website for Strange Heart is a single landing page, but it has almost everything you need from a band including a biography, gig listings and social media widgets. The initial elements are a link to Spotify and a subscription option with an easy to navigate menu. The contact details can be found by clicking the link, along with media (soon to come). I would recommend navigation to press images instead of merely placing the images underneath the biography.

Sigulka

When you think of Spain, the last type of music you would consider is Celtic rock - or perhaps that's just me. Sigulka is one of those bands that breaks stereotypes and pumps heavy Celtic rock from Madrid. This talented quintet have won various awards since their inception including two Akademia Music Awards.

Sigulka is:

Margarita on violin.
Juan on guitar and vocals.
Dan on guitar.
Fredy on bass.
Cristian on drums.

Sigulka released their album Symbols in August 2018.

https://www.facebook.com/sigulka/ - Sigulka's Facebook account is relatively well-maintained with two or three posts each month. The posts are primarily promotional with a focus on gig listings. Now, my Google translator may not be the greatest, but the posts are quite short and formal making it seem impersonal. Sigulka has a band profile app giving fans access to their gig schedule, videos and playlist. Moreover, they have apps for Instagram and YouTube available, so you don't need to leave Facebook to access these accounts. Merchandise can also be purchased from Facebook, which is another enjoyable convenience. Overall, Sigulka has made excellent use of the apps available to them; however, the biography is not background information on how Sigulka came about. Moreover, the video header is one of the flashier images making it difficult to view as a person with photosensitive epilepsy - this may be worth reconsidering.

http://sigulka.es/ - Sigulka's official website is well laid planned with their menu being prominent at the top of the page. Links to other social media accounts are easy to find and images are pinned making it pleasant to view. Music is available on the website with contact details and latest news; however, once again, there is no biography. I would recommend changing this, as well as reconsidering the number of images on the pages. Incorporating text with images may make it seem less 'busy'.

Heidi Burson

Heidi Burson’s story as an artist is one of shared human experience. Very early on, she felt the poignancy of the music of singers such as Etta James and Aretha Franklin. She was struck by the power and intensity with which they expressed the longing, which we all share, for love and acceptance. These influences, coupled with her own life experiences and a generous dusting of wry humor, have helped to forge a voice and style that is uniquely fascinating.

The States

The States. It represents an idea that we are all apart of a community that has the freedom of expressing ourselves through music. Our name isn't necessarily related to the United States or anything necessarily patriotic even though there are those themes throughout our brand. Rather it's more about the representation of the states of emotions we are all in from time to time. Happy, sad, introspective, broken, angry, depressed, or in love, we wanted our music to reach out to everyone.

Hedera

Sharing a collective love for vintage timbres and instrumental variety, digital processing and samples are absent throughout their performances and recordings, instead preferring the likes of reel-to-reel effects and djembe percussion. With a name translating to “Common Ivy” in Latin and a logo representing a new approach to traditional mediums, Hedera’s persona is reflected in their imagery: a vibrant, multicolored ivy leaf. The entirety of the band’s art direction is designed by lead guitarist Anthony Formisano.

GENTE DEL SUR

Mediterranean Trip-Hop, combining rhythms from the Latin Funk Jazz Sou R & B & Reggae with flamenco melodies.

Including the first single "La Gente Del Sur" (Dub Mix) in the American album "Pause & Play" published on June 10, 2016.

The Noble Impoverished

The Noble Impoverished is a wild fire. A sound influenced by bands like The Killers, Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, and many others

The Noble Impoverished is the creation of two brothers passion for playing music. At the age of 15 and 17 they picked up their fathers old classical guitar and lost control to Rock & Roll. After a few years of playing in Morgantown West Virginia they moved to Connecticut to showcase this raw sound to a larger stage. The bands deep roots in rock n roll drives its intense live performances, their strong melodies colliding with a savage energy that makes their show something not easily forgotten.

NIALAND

A sound so melodic, so soulful, so eclectic and full of passion and purpose…a style so powerful it reaches audiences of all kinds. A style like that is rare, and yet that style is synonymous with the sound of Nialand. Nialand, or Nia which she is most known as, is a style all on her own. Self-described as weird, her gift is creative, full of truth, mixed with some edge and delivered in a plethora of harmonies and smooth tones that is incomparable and sets her apart from many artists today. Influenced by Jazz, Classic Hip Hop, and Soul Music, Nialand puts her heart, soul, experience and truth in her music presenting an undeniably powerful musical experience.

Vajra

Vajra was formed by composer, singer and multi-instrumentalist, Annamaria Pinna during her self-imposed exile in India. The child of a former monk and school teacher, Annamaria was encouraged to learn about the world around her and to question her assumptions. She believes there is divinity in creativity. Annamaria has a neurological condition called synesthesia, where she attaches color and shapes to sound.

The Humidors

“Everything The Humidors play is given a heavy contemporary spin that splinters dance floors and leaves audiences in a sweaty daze. The band is a well-oiled unit with a polyrhythmic approach that balances short, sharp solos with an overwhelming collective approach.” - J. Poet, SF Weekly Hailing from the Bay Area, The Humidors have been churning out their own unique brand of party music for half a decade. Combining elements of hard-hitting funk, greasy soul, vintage R&B, soul jazz and more you can be sure that this eight-piece unit is committed to the groove in all its shapes and forms.

Jennifer Perryman

Bio...hmmm.  What shall I say?  Music's great!  I really like it...alot.  In fact, I enjoy it so much, that I've spent my life emersed in it.  I've made a modest career out of it, playing and singing in every kind of bar, nightclub, restaurant, and hotel, doing every kind of party or event where music is on the agenda for years.  I'm also in the studio quite a bit, doing everything from original projects, my personal favorite, to corporate backup tracks, radio spots, and jingles.
I play and sing different styles...everything from jazz, pop, and R&B to, well, I guess I should say country since I am from Texas. I like all types of music from all eras, starting with great composers like Chopin, Scriabin, and Debussy.

Sly Fox and the Hustlers

New York's Sly Fox and the Hustlers are a high energy original 4-piece Bluesy Rock N' Roll band with hints of Soul, Funk and a dash of Punk. Established in 2010 the band has shared the stage with National Recording Artists - Blues Traveler, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Robin Trower, Burton Cummings (The Guess Who) and Sam Kininger (Soulive), Twiddle and Sean Rowe among others. The band is made up of an all star cast including the powerful lead vocals and blues-soaked guitar of Sly Fox, the throbbing funky bass playing and smooth backing vocals of former Epic recording artist Dylan Storm, the swirling keys of Drew Costa and rounding out the group is the solid in the pocket drumming and showmanship of Sean Ireland. The live show has been described as "Heavy Voodoo Blues over Swampy Funky Grooves" and “an exciting show not to be missed - guaranteed to get you on your feet!"

Sule

Sule is a consummate, active professional. His music reflects the high premium he's placed on attention to detail and striving for excellence. His career has spanned many genres, such as Folk, Rock, Jazz, Blues and Gospel to name a few. These styles are seamlessly woven into a tapestry that is the essence of Sule's sound. His songwriting and stage show are examples of how dedicated he is to his audience, and to his craft. He has released two albums under his own name and is currently working on acoustic material for a third.

The Rift

We are a hard rock band based out of Los Angeles with an edgy driving twist on rock music. Traditionally, a rift is an open space. It’s a place of possibility and promise. Los Angeles hard rock trio THE RIFT lives up to its moniker.

Bassist JOHN ANAGNOS says, “The name is the best way to describe the band, what we do, and the experience we portray live. The songs are meant to be an opening, and there’s a lot you can find within them.”

RAZTERIA

A one of a kind breaking of all rules. Razteria won grand prize in the JLSC 2016 for the song "Once Again" co-written with rapper Rahman Jamaal, from her 5th album "Aventurera" (2016). In 2017, Razteria brings together musicians, producers and engineers from Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, USA and Switzerland in a new repertoire that crushes all musical and cultural boundaries.

Under The Lake

"Effervescent, vivacious and all-together engaging" is how smoothjazz.com describes Under The Lake's music, an original sound that Don Dilorio of the North Jersey Herald and News says "doesn't sit easy in any category, thanks to its heavy doses of funkified bass and occasional soul references." It's an sound that Under The Lake refers to as "jazz, groove and attitude." Featuring Nat Caranto on alto sax and John Moak on trombone, the two horn line-up and UTL's original compositions are keeping the soul jazz sound made famous by The Crusaders alive.

Floralyn George

Pop Singer/Songwriter, Model who plays the Electric Harp. Her aim is to take the harp out of its classical/folk frame and bring it to the broad world of pop music. Her unique voice has an outstanding vocal range and dynamic. She stands out with her unique mesmerizing sound and incredible talent. For her age, Floralyn has a very mature presence on stage and her strong live performances combined with her dreamy vibrations gives you a new extremely magical experience which is impossible to forget.

Revolators

Stripped back guitar grooves; infused with soul, rock, funk and high octane rhythm & blues. Original finely crafted songs.

Mayssa Karaa

Born in 1989 in Beirut, Lebanon, Mayssa Karaa attended the Conservatory of Beirut, where she studied piano, music theory and vocal training. In 2006, as a new conflict embroiled Lebanon, she moved with her family to Boston, Massachusetts and she gained a place at the prestigious Berklee College of Music, enrolling in 2008 and graduating in 2012.

Monday Night Social

Based out of Cleveland, TN (near Chattanooga) and known for their melodic blend of influences ranging from folk to blues with hints of bluegrass and pop, MondayNightSocial is a band poised to make their mark with unique songwriting and eclectic style. Their melding of various styles allows for a unique and resonant sound that compliments thoughtful lyrics and catchy melodies. Check out our live videos, follow us on Twitter @MdayNightSocial, check out our stuff on Soundcloud, visit our website, and come see us play live!

Madison Roe

Compared to the likes of James Bay, Amy Winehouse, Hozier and Ed Sheeran, Madison Roe knocks off this early Christmas gift from us to you. An indie-rock singer from Kauai, Hawaii, she is well-known for her soulful lyrics and melody. Madison recently released her debut EP, Changing Colors, and has plans for a sophomore release in 2019.

https://www.facebook.com/MadisonRoeOfficial/ - Madison's Facebook profile is one of the more engaging accounts I have come across. It is well-maintained and the posts will constantly include a video or an image. She has a plethora of photographs, the majority of them being less promotional; for instance, there are behind the scenes shots of a music video, and even some of her buying a guitar. My favourite element is the video section where she posts numerous acoustic covers including one from her teenage years. The real downfall is her biography page. Contact details are available, but there is no personal information and more links to other social media would be useful.

https://www.instagram.com/madisonroeofficial/ - it is obvious that Madison prefers Facebook to Instagram based on the types of pictures available. While Facebook is very 'natural', Instagram has more press images and live videos. It is a well-maintained account and enjoyable to look at, but I would choose her Facebook over this any day.

http://www.madisonroe.com/ - Did I mention Madison was a model? No. Well, it is quite obvious considering the effect of the images. Her official website's landing page has a stunning image with a very prominent menu, making it easy to navigate. However, if you're interested in music, you need only scroll down to view videos and playlists of her EPs. I have no concerns for this website, or maybe I'm too stunned by her photographs.

MosesMo And The Real Cool Band

Hailing from Dayton, Ohio, Moses Moore is one of the well-known artists in the funk rock genre heading Mother's Finest. Now with his band - a real cool band - the five-piece are making waves by following this Music Hall of Fame inductee. A guitarist and songwriter for over forty years, Moses is re-ignited dirty South blues funk rock with inspiration from Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Wonder and the Rolling Stones. Of course, MosesMo does have some solo projects every now and then with his latest solo album, Two Ton Message, released in 2018.

https://www.facebook.com/MosesMoandTheRCB/ - MosesMo takes pride in his Facebook profile keeping it well-maintained with regular posts and updates. There is a plethora of videos, mostly live videos which are enjoyable to watch. Furthermore, there are many photographs giving the fan insight into the band's live performances. Some reviews are available promoting engagement with fans; as well as a band profile giving access to a playlist and music videos. What I enjoy the most is the Facebook live stream facility and access to their latest album. I have no recommendations for this profile and only look forward to additional posts.

https://www.instagram.com/mosesmomf/ - MosesMo provides another engaging social media profile with many live images and videos, as well as some personal pics to give people insight into who Mo is. I enjoy this profile because it is humble and not something you'd expect from a Georgia Music Hall of Fame inductee.

https://mosesmo.com/ - when you arrive on the MosesMo official website, you are immediately stared down by Mo himself. A super cool picture with an easy to access menu makes the landing page ideal. As you scroll down, you'll discover music, a mailing list opt-in and some links to social media platforms. I am unsure why the music tab requires registration to view, but every other area of the website is easy to peruse. Moreover, the colour scheme is easy on a person's eyes.

The Worn Out Soles

Beginning as a threesome from Knoxville, Tennessee, The Worn Out Soles soon become a quartet with the addition of a fourth member. This alternative rock group draws inspiration from Nirvana, The Smashing Pumpkins, The Doors and Stone Temple Pilots. The Worn Out Soles released their self-titled debut album in 2018.

The Worn Out Soles are:

Nathan Forman on vocals and guitar.
Nick Voorhees on guitar.
Adam King on bass.
Brain J. Wright on drums.

https://www.facebook.com/thewornoutsoles/ - The Worn Out Soles use their Facebook account for promotional purposes exclusively. It is not very well-maintained, but does what a band profile needs to do. A plethora of images is available, but they are mostly live performances or merchandise images. Access is also available to gig listings and their debut album via a band profile widget. I would recommend updating the biography section with some more background information and links to social media accounts.

https://www.instagram.com/thewornoutsoles/ - if you want to view a band Instagram with life performance images, then you've come to the right one. The Worn Out Soles are still new and unsigned, but they could attempt to find a balance between more personal images and promotional items. Think a picture of your dog playing a guitar in a Christmas hat - something like that.

https://www.reverbnation.com/thewornoutsoles/ - A basic Reverbnation profile acts as The Worn Out Soles' official website. I enjoy Reverbnation profiles because they provide me with everything I need as a fan and a writer - press images, music, a biography and shows. I recommend that The Worn Out Soles extend their biography slightly.

Niki J. Crawford

Niki J. Crawford is a soul funk singer hailing from the small town of Springhill, Louisiana. Starting at the age of six, this groovy gal has progressed from hometown church choirs to sharing the stage with All Green, The Roots, Carlos Santana and even Snoop Dogg. Multi-talented, Niki is not only a powerful voice but also a dynamic actress. She recently completed filming 'Revival', a film based on the gospel of John. She has also performed in 'Mr. Sophistication' alongside Rick Fox and Tatum O'Neal. Yet, her first love is music and she continues to person with a passion and sensuality that inspires and promotes positivity.

https://www.facebook.com/NikiJCrawfordMusic/ - Niki's Facebook is a relatively well-maintained one with posts focusing mainly on the promotional element of her career. Several photographs and videos are available, with engaging personal shots available. She has also placed a band profile widget on the account giving fans access to a playlist and official music videos. My main concern is the social media links being further down on the page instead of in the allocated areas. Yes, you do have access to Instagram and Twitter, but you have to search for it.

https://www.instagram.com/nikijcrawford/ - Niki has a very well-balanced Instagram account with press and personal images. Her live performance pictures are great, and I really enjoy the videos. What I love about this account is how comfortable I feel viewing it. It is as if I am taking a look at a friend's photo album and I just feel, well, at ease.

http://www.nikijcrawford.com/ - the reason a Reverbnation band profile is fantastic as an official website is because it is like opening an EPK. The landing page includes social media links, a subscription opt-in widget, a biography, contact, videos, playlists, and images - everything you could want. In addition, there is a sticky menu that can be easily accessed if you want to view a particular item.

Whim Grace

Describing herself as a fallen angel and world wanderer, Whim Grace is a folk pop singer who attempts to understand this dystopian society with music. Channelling the boundaries of possibility hidden in the cracks of humanity, this singer is inspired by revolution and evolution. Whim released a single, 'Feelin' Alive', in February 2018. Her sound is inspired by Jack White, The Secret Sea and Radiohead.

https://www.facebook.com/whimmusic/ - Whim Grace's Facebook account is one of the more complete profiles I have come across. A plethora of images and videos are available for visitors, as well as a band profile widget allowing access to playlists and official music videos. Gig dates are also available, and the engaging posts are regularly updated. Contact information is available, along with social media account links - so I don't have much more to recommend.

https://www.instagram.com/whimgrace/ - Whim's Instagram account is well-maintained and has a good balance between promotional and personal images. Whim has also placed several videos on the account which are highly engaging for visitors. You can view other elements of Whim Grace's personality in this account with a focus on art and photography. I would recommend a link to contact details in the biography.

https://whimgrace.bandcamp.com/ - by using a Bandcamp account as an official website, Whim Grace is focusing on the sale of her single 'Feelin' Alive'. While this website can offer all the information you desire if you want from a merchandise perspective, it does not offer any press images or any music videos.

Meresha

Barely out of her teens, Meresha has embraced a soulful sound inspired by Annie Lennox and Lorde to release an EP New Revolution. The sometimes eccentric beats bring about older styles into contemporary productions from this DJ. Meresha has performed songs from the album with Third Eye Blind and Adam Lambert. Her most recent album, Enter the Dreamland, is one of All Music's Top 20 Pop Albums of 2017. Her music has been streamed over 14 million times on streaming platforms.

https://www.facebook.com/Mereshas/ - Meresha's Facebook account is a very well-maintained profile that is indicative of her age. Highly engaging with a plethora of non-promotional images and videos, this account is enjoyable to peruse for the average lay person. Meresha has added a band profile allowing access to music videos and playlists. I do recommend placing personal information on her biography page, but the links to social media accounts with contact details are sufficient.

https://www.meresha.com/ - Meresha's official website is neat, offers a manageable primary menu with tabs to all the information you require. She also places links to social media accounts and streaming platforms. If you scroll down on the landing page, you will find a link to her latest release which is highly beneficial. My only recommendation is an email address along with the contact box.

Neil Taylor

Most well known as a guitarist for Tears For Fears and the famous one-take solo on 'Everybody Wants To Rule The World', Neil Taylor is a British artist who has navigated the contemporary rock music industry for over thirty years. After two world tours with Tears For Fears, Neil toured with the likes of Peter Gabriel, The Pretenders, Rod Stewart, and recorded with Robbie Williams on his Sing While You're Winning and Escapology albums. In 2010, Neil began working on his solo career and has released several singles and albums over the past eight years. His latest release is a single called 'Paper Kite'.

https://www.facebook.com/neiltaylormusic/ - Believe it or not, Neil Taylor's Facebook account is one of the more engaging profiles I have come across rivalling quite a few younger bands. Just shows that age has nothing to do with social media. Neil has a plethora of images, quite a few being live performance photos; as well as acoustic performance videos which are enjoyable. I mean, who doesn't want to see a legendary guitarist perform? My one concern is the lack of contact details.

https://www.instagram.com/neil.taylor1/ - if you are hoping to find promotional images on Neil Taylor's Instagram, then you've come to the wrong place! This is a very amusing account with the majority of pictures being selfie-style images and pictures demonstrating the light-hearted personality of this talented man. I love the account despite it not being updated regularly.

https://www.neiltaylor.net/ - Neil's official website is a single landing page with the focus on the 'Paper Kite' single release. If you scroll down you will find more information about Neil, his discography, live performances, a mailing list opt-in and even management details for direct contact. Social media account links are available at the bottom of the page, so it is possible to find his profiles on other platforms.

Fergus McKay & Nothing Concrete

A six-piece blend of swing, blues and folk, Fergus McKay & Nothing Concrete are an international band based in the French Pyrenees. If you add some tap dancing from their brass section into the mix, you will have the makings of a truly unforgettable live performance. The latest album, Jumble Shop Tales, was released at the end of 2018 with much positive response from critics.

https://www.facebook.com/nothingconcrete1/ - Fergus McKay & Nothing Concrete maintain their Facebook account relatively well with regular updates on gigs, releases and reviews. I enjoy the band's performance and this can be seen in their numerous live videos. The band has several images which are press shots mainly, but they also have a band profile available allowing access to a playlist and music videos. I would recommend placing more links to other social media accounts, but otherwise all items seem to be in place.

https://fjsm33.wixsite.com/fergus-mckay - my first note on this website is the background video which made me close the site before I was able to make a decent assessment. It is far too distracting and can prompt a headache, particularly if they are photosensitive. No flashing lights are in the video, but the speedy transitions can be an issue. In many cases, the video would be part of a header and can be paused or scrolled down; however, this is not the instance in Fergus McKay's case.
