Stepping away from the drawing board for a brief moment, Jeff Kitselman from pop-punk All From Nothing sits down with Nicole Mendes from The Old School Project. Here is what this talented guy from Kansas had to say.

NM: Hi there. I hope you're well and ready for a chat. The questions aren't too prying, so shall we begin?

JK: Yes, let’s do this!

NM: Let's get all of the introductory questions out of the way. First thing, who am I speaking with and what part do you play in the band?

JK: This is Jeff Kitselman, lead singer and rhythm guitarist.

NM: How did All From Nothing come together?

JK: I started the band about two years ago calling it All Or Nothing, but we were notified that the name was already taken a few months into it, and decided to stick close to the original name and still had meaning to us. We've had several members come and go, as I think most bands experience. Sage Thurston, our drummer, has been with me the longest, coming up on about a year and a half. The other guys joined early last summer, and our current group has been very committed and solid with common goals moving forward.

NM: I'm guessing your band name expresses your approach to music, but am I correct?

JK: It does. The process of building anything from the ground up is a grind, and you have to start somewhere; so, it has meaning to us as we continue to push forward. It all starts with an idea and then hard work from there!

NM: You are releasing a new single called 'Actions Speak' soon. What can you tell us about the track?

JK: We are excited for the release. It is all but done now at the studio; just needs some mixing and then deciding how we want to release it! The song was written, taken from a previous relationship that ended not that long ago. I still feel the pain from the relationship when playing it.

NM: 'Actions Speak' is part of an EP you are currently working on. What can you tell us about the EP, if anything?

JK: We are excited about this new release. We started with the idea of another five or six-song EP, but we are now maybe looking at a full album as we have about nine songs that we are working on!

NM: Using 'Actions Speak' as an example, could you tell me about your songwriting process?

JK: We typically start a song by the melody, something that we like the sound of. After coming up with some musical parts and the structure of the song, I then decide what to write about and fit it within the structure so that it hopefully flows well. I personally write most of my music on the acoustic guitar first before moving it over to an electric. 'Actions Speak' was written by Sage Thurston for the most part regarding musically, and then I wrote most of the lyrics to it.

NM: What about the recording process?

JK: The recording process is evolving as our first EP was almost completely recorded by Sage. He played guitar, bass and drums, and even some backing vocals; then I went in and recorded all of the main vocals at a studio in the Kansas City area. With Pav, our bassist, and Gabriel Molina, lead guitarist, really stepping up their roles in the band. They are now becoming more involved in the recording process, and this will create an interesting dynamic moving forward with the songwriting process as well.

NM: What is the inspiration for 'Actions Speak'?

JK: Both Sage and I went through recent breakups this past year that were hard, and the best therapy for myself is to turn it into a song. I often do when something is bothering me or conflicting within.

NM: You released a single a couple of months ago, so do you find it easier to keep recording and releasing material as compared to breaks between releases?

JK: We just wish there was more time in the day! I would love to get all of the songs we have done and completed out for the public; I'm excited for what is coming! We have so many new song ideas on top of the nine or ten songs we are recording at the moment. For myself, I like to keep putting new material out versus a long break in music, especially with all of the material we have. As of now, we are not experiencing any kind of writer's block! :)

NM: Do you think releasing content regularly is important and why?

JK: We do feel it is very important as to stay in our fans' minds and ears in the hope of continuing to grow as a band. Our goal is to put out an EP or album every 12 to 18 months; promoting and marketing the album for that timeframe.

NM: In your Facebook biography, you say there are too many musical influences to mention, but do you have one or two artists that seem to have a greater influence on your sound? Who are they, and why are they up there?

JK: For myself, my greatest influences would have been when I was a young teenager and really falling in love with rock and roll. I grew up listening to what my parents listened to; as there was no internet, you only had the radio, cassettes and CDs! That being said, I was a fan of Bon Jovi, Skid Row, Guns 'N Roses, Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, Poison in the late 80s, and then Nirvana hit. It had a huge impact on me and the many other grunge bands from the 90s. Blink 182, Green Day and Offspring, along with Social Distortion helped carve out my own punk influences.

When a certain song hits you, it is such a natural high with the release of endorphins. I know it is different for everyone, but for me, it's the way a vocalist sings/screams, the energy from the guitars and the way it empowers you. I was sold on rock from the day I heard it and can't see that ever changing.

NM: Do you have any future tours planned to promote the single and upcoming EP?

JK: As of now we don’t have any tours planned. We would love to do something this summer but haven’t made all of the contacts yet to put something like that together. With the band also all working, and school as well, any tours as of now definitely have to be strategic. We hope to set up a couple of two-week tours soon with the right connections to make that happen.

NM: You released a music video for your single 'Down On Me' last month. What was filming like for the video?

JK: We had so much fun doing this video. It was a day where we had a few inches of snow, and Gabe and Sage brought up doing a video on a whim! Gabriel is also a very talented cameraman/videographer, and he shot the whole thing.

NM: Most people say filming a music video is a treat, but did you experience any challenges?

JK: The biggest challenges are the time and energy it takes in doing videos. It takes a full day, plus all of the planning, and when hiring someone else, it can be expensive. The percentage of people that watch video content though versus just listening to our songs, I have been told, is over 100%; so, it is a must do!

We do definitely enjoy them, but it's hard to do them, hit the recording studio and play shows all at once. Again, we just need more hours in the day to get everything done that we want to accomplish or get to the point that we are making a living doing this.

NM: Who developed the concept for the video and was the final result in line with this?

JK: The concept of 'Down On Me' was mostly put together by Gabe and Sage, with input from both Pav and myself.

NM: People have favourite established acts, but who is your favourite independent act at the moment and why that musician?

JK: That is a tough one. There are some great local bands that are independent making great music! From some of the locals that I have recently heard in the KC area, I really like Stories Through Storms, Champagne Campaign, Sweet Ascent and From the Ashes. All four bands are pushing hard to make a name for themselves; they are all very talented and inspire me to continue improving on my own songwriting. They have been an influence on me, helping me learn each step in moving forward in taking the band to the next level.

NM: That's it! Thanks so much for speaking with me. Good luck for the EP, tours and any other musical endeavours. :)

JK: Thank you so much for the interview; we truly appreciate your interest in All From Nothing!

Lovesick Radio are a Pop/Rock band formed in 2006 in Las Vegas, Nevada, borne out of an ever growing pedigree for success. The six- piece unit are fronted by Lead singer Troy Brown whos is joined by Drummer Matt Seskevics, Bassist Glenn Viers and guitarists David Harris and Matt Bores.

They have toured extensively throughout the States in support of prestigious acts like Kid Rock, Bon Jovi, Scott Weiland, Three Days Grace etc . As well as this, They have toured across the Far- East in countries like Japan South Korea and China, including a recent appearance at ChangJiang Music Festival. They have even featured on MTV programmes “My Sweet Super Sixteen and “Bands on the Rise” They have been described as an “ unapologetic arena pop-rock band that you actually want to hear”. This is a fair assessment from a band with an arsenal of well written rock songs that focuses on Love, Betrayal and social disorders.

The band write wholesome music full of Rock ‘N’ Roll attitude coupled with a hint of Honky Tonk and blues influences that bring that much needed swagger modern day rock acts crave.

I will be looking at a few tracks from their back catalogue, before there upcoming LP is released.

Numb Me Up ( Stripped) is an acoustic version of the original hit. This track is a ballad I personally feel is about a man talking about the struggles he finds in a relationship with a loved one. The basic strumming patterns and hushed vocals produce an unlayered track full of melodies.

Tell Me Why is a pulse rating hard rock tune that has Boogie Rock influences . The opening riff adds salvo with slide guitar effects that adds an extra layer to the music .A huge pop chorus blends with the high energy of the music and the defiant message that will keep those fists pumping.

Hooray ( She Got Her Way) shows the band’s blues influences growing. The mid-tempo feel adds a confident vibe to the song’s structure. Brown snarls about a promiscuous woman full of sarcasm with trumpets added in the background and meaty riff that is testament to the musical craftsmanship

Come Together is an anthem that shows how the sounds evolves. This guitar orientated track has a tenacious riff that blends with soulful vocals and tasty breakdowns with a delicious solo that fits in towards the end.

Lovesick Radio certainly deserve more success. It will be interesting to hear anymore capabilities from the new LP.

https://www.facebook.com/LoveSickRadioBand/ The page is encouraging for fans with updated information on concert dates, news , colourful pictures and an opportunity for a livestreaming gig via Stageit.

https://twitter.com/lovesickradio This is another good page for fans with snippets of the band in the studio and information on further gigs. This provides a more personal interaction with followers, which I enjoyed reading.

Band Interview

Could you tell us how you first met The Old School Project?

First I wanted to say thanks for taking the time to interview the band. As for the question; I wish I had a better answer for this but it was through the power of the Internet.

Could you explain to new listeners how you first met? And why you chose to form a band?

This version of LSR really came together after Troy and I ( David) recorded “ Hooray (She Got Her Way)”. We really enjoyed the process and decided to write some more songs together and just see what happens. After that things just started happening fast & we are still playing catch up.

What is the reason behind the name?

The name came from something our old drummer said. He was going through a break up and mentioned how every song he was hearing on the radio was about heartbreak. It was almost like the radio was love sick. We all just kinda looked at each other and said I think we have the name.

You recently performed at the Changjiang Music Festival in China, Could you tell us a bit about that experience?

This was our third time in China. We love the Country and the people. It’s pretty crazy to play for a few hundred thousand people. The people that bring us over and their crew are some of the best people to work with. Plus the crowds are great and we can’t wait to go back! We feel blessed to get to travel to all these different counties.

You have also performed in Japan and South Korea, What is a usual Far- East crowd like compared to a home crowd?

Each country and town are different. But the thing that’s really the same throughout the world no matter where you are is music brings people together. Everyone is there is have a good time and so are we!

Did you get to go sightseeing around the area? And the festival itself?

Sometimes we do! And when we get the chance we definitely love getting out to the city or around the people at the shows. But a lot of the time all we get to see is what we see through the window of the bus as we pass these beautiful landscapes.

Where there any local bands in particular that caught your eye?

There was this band that went on before us in China that was killer. I’m blanking on the name right now! We love catching the bands sets that we get to share the stage with.

You have some dates coming up, could you tell fans what to expect from the shows, and do you have any guests?

The shows are going to be fun with a ton of energy. We are looking forward to getting out with Wayland for a few dates. They are great live !

You have had the privilege to share the stage with an array of musicians like Scott Weiland, Hinder, Three Days Grace, Paramore and a host more, what was it like to perform with them, and who was the biggest influence on the band?

For me Scott Weiland was huge. I grew up loving Stone Temple Pilots and still do. Bon Jovi & Kid Rock was pretty crazy as well cuz those were stadium shows. And I think everyone grew up hearing those bands songs on the radio non -stop.

The band’s latest single “You Should’ve Known” is been broadcasted ON Air  on The Old School Project 24/7.

Hello, River, thanks so much for speaking with me. I appreciate you taking time out of your day. I promise there aren't too many questions; shall we begin?

Cliché, I know, but can you tell our avid readers how River Lynch and The Spiritmakers came together and how you came up with the name of the band?

It started in 2015 when I decided to record a four-song EP of my originals. These songs were begging to be played with a band. Through a mutual friend, I met our bassist, Schuyler Skuse, and was re-introduced to our drummer, Tim Leverett. After a really successful set at the EP release show in 2016, we felt like we had something good and just started booking shows from there. The name Spiritmakers comes from my song of the same name. My definition of Spiritmaker is 'someone who lifts the human spirit through the power of rock ‘n’ roll music'.

River, you began your musical career as a solo artist before 'rallying the band' - a direct quote from your Facebook. Do you find being in a band more challenging or easier than performing on your own? How so?

‘Rallying the band’ is code for ‘Let's roll!’. I wouldn’t say there are more challenges being in a band compared to performing as a solo artist, just different challenges. With the band, it’s things like working around each person’s schedule and making time to accomplish everything we hope to. When performing solo, not having the band there to rely on can be tough at times. They’re different but I really enjoy both. My introverted self is a solo artist, and my extroverted self is the frontman of a rock ‘n’ roll band.

Do any of the band members have a musical background?

Schuyler began playing upright bass in 3rd grade, and electric bass in 5th. After performing throughout high school in an orchestra, jazz band, and the rock band The Absolutes, he went on to pursue a degree in Music Management at The Hartt School at the University of Hartford. At Hartt, Schuyler studied the bass with world-renowned jazz bassist, Nat Reeves, and graduated in 2014 with a Bachelor of Music.

Tim is a multi-instrumentalist, played piano since he was 5, picked up the drums at 13, and guitar at 18. Tim is also a composer and songwriter who has created full-length orchestral ballets and instrumental pieces for TV and film, as well as writing over 100 songs.

As for myself, my musical experience started with the trumpet in 4th grade playing in the school band. Around 12 years old I got my first electric guitar and was part of a rock ‘n’ roll band in high school. At 17, I wrote my first song.

You are releasing a new single in March called 'This World Now'. What can you tell me about it?

It’s the heaviest song we have recorded so far. I hear it as a ‘psychedelic-western’.

What was the inspiration behind the new track?

The inspiration for 'This World Now' originated with an overwhelming feeling of personal injustice. Wanting to help someone who needed it, but not actually being able to help them. I see the song as sort of a thriller short film. There are three characters: the victim, the                     assailant, and the anti-hero. It’s dark and heavy, but speaks to the side of human nature that just wants things to be right. I’m really excited for people to hear this one. It’s a different side of us.

What was the recording process like for 'This World Now'? Did you experience any problems?

No serious problems while recording, fortunately. A while back, the guys and I laid down the foundation for the song; bass, drums and some rhythm guitar. More recently, I went back with our producer, Doug Zogby at GFI Studios, and began filling in the colours with vocals and       lead guitar parts. We’ve been playing this song live since our first show, so it’s been a lot of fun to bring it into         the   studio and really explore its full potential. I am really pleased with the way this song turned out.

Could you briefly describe your song-writing process for us? Does each band member have a set role or is it a big ol' jam session?

I write the songs and then bring them to practice and show the band. I’ll play them through a few times so they can get a feel for the structure, and then they start playing along to see what feels right. In most cases, it only takes a few practices for a song to be stage ready. It’s       all about the song with our band. Whatever we are playing, it’s to serve the original vision of the song.

When you mention rock 'n' roll to someone, the associations range from Elvis to Nirvana or Deep Purple and Guns 'N Roses. What is your definition of rock 'n' roll?

For me, rock ‘n’ roll should be dangerous, rebellious, loud, and dirty. It should have grit, passion and attitude. It should swing, boom and groove. It should make you move, make you feel, and make you think. It’s a mystical force that lives in your soul and is available to everyone.

Rock ‘n’ roll is a symbol of freedom. Any band or artist that creates a genuine display of that, I would call rock ‘n’ roll. Chuck Berry, Elvis, Little Richard, the Stones, Hendrix, they are all prime examples of just that.

How do you feel rock 'n' roll has changed over the years and has the change influenced your music?

The basic fundamentals of rock ‘n’ roll really haven’t changed much since its birth in the 1950s. I personally think in the past few decades it began to lose it’s ‘roll’, becoming stiff and uninspired. Of course, there has always been a handful of great artists keeping the flame burning in every generation.

Right now, I hear a lot of bands with similar influences as myself. I’ve noticed that a lot of people my age grew up listening to music from the 60s and 70s, and I think that is reflected in today’s rock ‘n’ roll. There are some really great bands right now that capture that genuine rock ‘n’ roll sound. It keeps me hopeful for the future. It’s not heard that often on terrestrial radio or in the mainstream. Fortunately, there are so many other ways to discover new music today.

Are there any bands or artists that inspire your sound?

We have a wide range of influences from all different times and all different artists. With that said, our sound has a 60s and 70s vibe for sure, so we are heavily influenced by a lot of bands from that time period. On a playlist, we are placed with bands like The Rolling Stones, Tom Petty, Alabama Shakes, Ryan Adams, and Gary Clark Jr. to name a few. We’re just trying to do our own thing in our own time.

Grassroots music receives more promotion now than in previous years with the help of the internet, so what is it like being an independent band in the 21st century?

Being an independent band in the 21st century is empowering but also very challenging. You have to do a lot of things you never thought you would have to do - one part musician, one part businessman. On the other hand, you have complete freedom with your creative path. There are also more resources for independent bands to use now, than ever before. That makes some stuff easier, but also brings along an entirely new set of challenges.

It’s good though, there are a lot of opportunities. I also think the general public is much more aware and supportive of independent artists nowadays. It’s all about building a fan base of your own.

What advice would you give new bands?

Remain true to your creative vision. It’s easy to forget why you’re doing all this in the first place.

Other than the upcoming single, 'This World Now', what can we expect from River Lynch and The Spiritmakers in 2019?

We’re focusing on playing in new places. Over the past two years, we’ve done multiple 3-day tours in Canada and on the East coast. We would like to do more of that. We’re also working on booking more festival shows, and we will have even more new music as the year goes on. We have had some good fortune come our way since we started. We’re taking that with us as we head out through 2019.

Thanks so much for speaking with me, River. Wishing you the best for your new release and all your future endeavours!

Son of an amateur musician, Sulimar Rass began his career at a very early age performing at festivals and bars in his hometown, Dom Pedrito, in Rio Grande do Sul, almost at the border with Uruguay. Based in Pelotas, he opened the RASS School of Music and graduated in Phonographic Production. 2016 he released "Absurd Conclusions", his first album. Far from the Gaucho stereotype, Rass lyrics are philosophic and romantic, while his arrangements mix Brazilian urban influences and rhythms from the River de la Plata Region. Still waters run deep.

(GF) When did your relationship to music?

I was born in an extremely musical family that has always encouraged me a lot, my father was an amateur musician and until now music aficionado. At the age of fourteen I received my first payment as a musician. Since then I never stopped dealing with music. My life was practically all dedicated to music, living from her and for her.

(GF) How would you define the kind of music you do?

(SR) I often say that my three strongest influences are the Brazilian southern folk music, instrumental music (from all genres) and Brazilian popular music, but I am also influenced by jazz, bossa nova, classic, rock. I think the sound I make is universal. It can be played and enjoyed everywhere.

(GF) What about your new album "Canções Inerentes" (Inherent Songs)?

It will be released on all digital platforms in September 2018 and in physical format in October. It is heavily influenced by rhythms and themes pertinent to the region southern Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina with modern arrangements and strong jazz and classic influences. I recorded part of it in Argentina, produced by Sebastián Perkal, winner of a Latin Grammy in 2010. The musical production is signed by composer and arranger Edu Martins. Edu has worked as a musician, producer and arranger over the last few decades alongside Brazilian music artists such as Cesar Mariano, Guinga, Milton Nascimento and Gal Costa, among others and also international artists like George Benson and Dave Liebman. In addition to Edu Martins, the pianist Mauro Filho takes part in the album. Mauro is a member of Edu Martins Trio and has performed with saxophonist David Lieberman, Débora Blando and Geraldo Flach. Mariano Cantero was in charge of the percussions. Mariano is also a teacher at the La Plata Graduate Conservatory in Argentina. He coordinates workshops in Córdoba, Tucumán, Mendoza and Rosario. He is also a member of the "Acá Seca Trio" and the prestigious percussion ensemble "La Bomba of Time ", directed by Santiago Vázquez.

(GF) Future projects?

After the release of the album, I will dedicate my time to conclude and release my online course for musicians who seek to improve their musical knowledge. I also want to publish my first book. It will be called "The surprises of the alter ego". A compilation of short stories that portray everyday´s life in a humorous way.

The repertoire of this jazz singer and awarded songwriter from Rio de Janeiro reveals influences of Brazilian popular music, the French chanson and Latin American rhythms, but most of all, Geisa Fernandes is a jazz singer. Severed Stars

Severed stars are a Spanish based rock act, hailing from Zaragoza, that comprise of members from the Uk, Spain and France. They write poetic lyrics with the intention to create their own brand of “Alternate Rock” The band themselves play a fusion of prog/ and Alt rock that convey some powerful and emotional music, which could delight any listener with their epic passages, heavy drums and highly energized guitars. They have been compared to bands like Tool, My Bloody Valentin and Helmet.

Severed Stars consists of:
Robin Blackmore: vocal, guitar and songwriter
Ramon Castillon: guitar
Remy Daragon: drums
Gary Rackham: bass and bv's

Severed Stars recently released debut EP “Stormcloud Songs “last March

http://severedstars.com/ This is account is beautifully designed to match the creative minds of the band themselves with a couple of videos for new fans, as well as a nicely organized photo gallery, which features a category of recording sessions, and another of live gigs. My only criticism would be there is no biography of the group for listeners to understand who they are.

https://www.facebook.com/SeveredStars/ This is another good site from Severed Stars with a lyric video as the band’s background profile pic. I feel this really encapsulates the band's aura, where you will find updates and review of their latest singles, as well as a more informative video section for new fans.

Barefoot Modern

Alternative rock act Barefoot Modern are four young college friends from Boone, California. Yet, this is only the beginning of the story of these talented musicians who came to be. Diminutive Lead singer Tegan Dean started entering talent shows at the age of 8 singing country songs in between soccer practice, her warm vocal range will surprise many, along the classically trained drummer Caleb LeJeune, guitarist/keyboardist Robert Beverly, and bassist Hunter Evans, who spent much of their adolescence learning the stand-up bass, piano, and guitar, respectively.

They started writing at 15-year-old , and soon formed their own garage-grunge band The Bliss Trip, gaining widespread media attention and opening for national acts such as Rainbow Kitten Surprise and Jonas Sees in Color. Caleb would sing vocals, while Tegan joined in on harmony. They soon swapped roles, and before long they formed Barefoot Modern as the four started college, the guys at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina, and Tegan at nearby Leas-McRae College. Barefoot Modern sing beautiful melodies entwined with a harmonious rhythm section that combine to create an enchanting collection of pop songs. The band recently released debut album “Younger Years”

https://www.facebook.com/barefootmodernband/ This is a nice site that truly shows the band’s bubbly personality. The reader is gripped instantly by the background picture of the band enjoying Christmas. The videos and pictures support this exterior image with a couple of cover tracks including Led Zeppelin’s whole lotta love, plus some nicely shot images of the band posing.

https://twitter.com/barefoot_modern This is another good site that formulates a personal touch..The band share quite a few bits of new from friends, as well as updates of their own. This gives me the feeling that they are inviting the listener into their lives.

While my seven-string guitar gently weeps: Pablo Vieira and the new generation of Brazilian Chorinho

Choro (also Chorinho) is considered the first typically Brazilian urban music genre. It appeared in the city of Rio de Janeiro in the nineteenth century. The name means “lament” or “weep” and it comes from the mixture of the percussion base of African Lundu mixed with European rhythms. As in Jazz, improvisation is a basic condition, requiring high virtuosity from its performers, called Chorões (Weepers). Pablo Vieira (26), from São Paulo is a Weeper. The former Law student plays the seven-string guitar in the quartet “Chorando é que se aprende” (We learn as we weep) and is about to release a solo project. The new generation of Chorinho shows that the guitars have been weeping gentler then ever!

(GF) How was your first contact with music?

(PV) I usually say that I had several "first contacts" with music. I didn´t have much to do with music during my childhood, although I do remember that I really enjoyed listening to an album that belonged to my mother. It was "El Mauro", from The Gipsy Kings. Later, I listened to a lot of music with my dad and developed a taste for the Brazilian soul of Tim Maia and the country rock of Creedence Clearwater Revival. Later, when I discovered the album "O Poeta e o Violão" (The Poet and the Guitar), by Toquinho and Vinícius de Moraes I got hopeless hooked on music. And finally, I knew it was eternal love, when I first listened to “Doce de Coco”, composed by Jacob do Bandolim, one of the big names in the history of the Choro genre.

(GF) Choro has a tradition of skilful guitar players. Where do young  musicians like you  get their references from?

(PV) Toquinho is a very strong reference for me, but I'm also an unconditional fan of the guitars of Baden  Powell, Yamandu Costa,  Raphael Rabello, Rafael Schmidt, among many others. Lately, I have heard a lot  of the so-called "Brazilian song", from musicians like  Breno Ruiz, Renato Braz and Monica Salmaso.

(GF) What about the group, “Chorando é que se aprende”? How long  have you been  playing together?

(PV) It all started back in 2015, as a trio. I play the seven-string acoustic guitar, Lucas Martins plays  bandolim (the Brazilian style  flat-  back mandolin) and João Pedro Franzosi plays the tambourine. In 2017,  we became a quartet, with Leonardo Relvas playing  cavaquinho, a four-string acoustic guitar. The funny  detail is that we all met at the Law School and we actually managed to get  through it!

(GF) Future plans?

(PV) After much hesitation, in March I will release a solo EP called “Missão” (Mission), a passionate work  with three tracks of solo  guitar. Right now, I am very involved with the production of the show. It will be  a  new experience for me, in a very cosy, intimate  place in São Paulo, for 25 people only. It will be an    af  fectionate celebration.

Written by Geisa Fernandes - Brasil / Rio de Janeiro

The repertoire of this jazz singer and awarded songwriter from Rio de Janeiro reveals influences of Brazilian popular music, the French chanson and Latin American rhythms, but most of all, Geisa Fernandes is a jazz singer. Mishéll

If you're a fan of Eurovision, then you'll definitely recognise the name Mishéll. Not only did this Ukrainian singer/songwriter make it to the National Selections for Eurovision in 2006 and 2007, but she also dominated other talent shows. It seems her music captured Ukraine in 'Your Face Sounds Familiar' 2013, and she was awarded second-place at the 2008 'New Wave' song contest.

Mishéll released her official video for 'Never Be' in January, 2018. She is currently working on a full-length album.

https://www.facebook.com/mishellsinger/ - a well-maintained Facebook account with various photographs and videos for viewers. The profile lacks a biography, and there is little information regarding the artist; however, the necessary information is available with an email address. No forwarding links to other websites, which is disappointing.

https://www.instagram.com/mishellsinger/ - a very well-maintained Instagram account with both personal and professional pictures. Mishéll engages well with her audience here, but does not cross the boundary of over-friendly with her followers. A link to her YouTube is available, but there is no information about her or links to other websites. More links would be useful to help followers view more profiles.

https://xn--mishll-eva.com/ - as with the social media profiles, Mishéll's official account has minimal background information. It does, however, provide links to the social media profiles with YouTube videos and a contact box - that's it. Mishéll is currently recording, so I'm unsure if gig listings would be placed on this site. My recommendation is to place more information here on this site, such as an 'about me' page, some event listings (or a page for pending listings), and a press section. Rather place items here than hope for people to visit the social media accounts.

Mayssa

A US citizen born in Lebanon, Mayssa Karaa is the embodiment of Middle Eastern influences merged with the US-dominated global pop/rock culture. Her enchanting multi-octave voice defines a new generation of musical inclusion with her songs connecting the origins of her homeland to the adopted home of California. In 2015, Mayssa Karaa received a Grammy Award nomination. Mayssa released the first track, 'Broken Lines', off her new album in May 2018.

Mayssa released the official video of 'Broken Lines' in September 2018.

https://www.facebook.com/MayssaKaraa/ - this Facebook profile is very well-maintained with regular updates. The majority of the updates are press-related, and the audio-visual items (videos and pictures) focus on live performances. All contact details and personal information is available, along with Twitter and Instagram widgets allowing visitors to view these profiles without leaving Facebook. This is a highly professional profile and offers something for both fans and publicists.

https://www.instagram.com/mayssakaraa/ - a regularly updated Instagram account with various personal and professional pictures. Personal information is absent and there is no link to any other online accounts or websites. It's good for engaging with followers, but links to other accounts would be recommended.

https://www.mayssakaraa.com/ - a highly professional official website with everything you could want available on the landing page. Mayssa has background information, videos, press links, contact information, newsletter subscription, a music playlist and links to all social media is available without needing to leave the first page.

Franklin Boone

Franklin Boone is a singer/songwriter hailing from Durham, North Carolina. While he seems to lean towards an indie rock/alternative style with his music, this is not necessarily the sound he presents all the time. Based on his wide musical influences, Franklin has developed a unique, multi-genre sound that comprises jazz, indie rock, folk and rock. Franklin's aim is to share his music and take the listener on an exploration of the human experience from alternate perspectives. He wishes to bring life to others by sharing his gift.

Franklin Boone recently released the demo of his song 'Everything' on iTunes.

https://www.facebook.com/franklinboonemusic/ - the Facebook account is a regularly updated one with an array of photographs, videos and press-related posts. Several of the videos are covers, which is always enjoyable to watch as a fan. The account has a Reverbnation app sharing all videos, press photographs, event listings and a music playlist. My one concern is the lack of personal information and contact details. He does have a link to his official website, but more details to other social media accounts would be useful.

https://www.instagram.com/delanorroosevelt/ - one thing I dislike regarding professional social media accounts is when the handle is completely alternate to the artist's name. While Franklin indicates his official website and name in the personal information section, the account may be overlooked because of the handle. The account is also poorly maintained with only five posts made in 2018.

http://franklinboonemusic.com/ - the official website is well-maintained with access to music, event listings, a music playlist, videos, personal information and social media links on the landing page. A menu is available to direct you to specific sections, which is useful to avoid scrolling down. The press image background is attractive making it an aesthetically pleasing website to peruse; however, there are no contact details.

ROMII

Pop superstar ROMII, previously known as ROMY, has never been afraid of hard work. Trained in all forms of performing arts (singing, acting and dancing) from a young age onwards, ROMII wrote her first song at the age of seven; once the bug bit, there was no stopping her! Working with industry professionals such as Savage, Bad Boy Records and T-Pain, this Los Angeles/Brisbane-based artist has been carving a name for herself on an international scale. Sworn to remain independent, ROMII self-produced debut single 'Wild Heart' received high acclaim from radio stations across the globe. Her performance of the song at the Queensland Music Awards 2017 won her the title of 'Urban Song of the Year'.

ROMII released her single 'Cupid Love' in September 2018.

https://www.facebook.com/whoisromii/ - this Facebook account is very well-maintained with posts made on an almost daily basis. The posts tend to focus on press and promotion, as do the videos and pictures. Event details are easily found, but regarding personal details, ROMII provides basic information with a biography, link to official website and email address. I would recommend links to additional social media accounts for the visitor's convenience. It should also be noted that the 'BandPage' app no longer works.

https://www.instagram.com/whoisromii/ - a well-maintained Instagram account with both professional and personal posts; however, more professional and press images than personal. While little information is available in the Instagram 'about me' section, ROMII has placed a linktree hyperfollow URL with access to all of her online accounts.

https://www.whoisromii.com/ - the official website is a basic landing page with a press image, expired countdown and links to social media accounts. It's evident that ROMII has ignored this website and I would recommend updating it by at least removing the expired countdown.

Artists To Keep Your Eye On

Rai Kah Mercury

Rai Kah Mercury is a three-piece blues-rock band hailing from Staffordshire, England. Defining their music as both 'delicate and chaotic glory', the band members captivate listeners through the complex web they weave in their melodies. Influences range from Joy Division to Radiohead and Crazy House; however, once you heard the artists start to play, you will discover signature pieces that pure Rai Kah Mercury.

Rai Kah Mercury is:

Tomas Crean on guitar and lead vocals.
Reese Schaefer on bass.
Joshua Anthony Lowe on drums.

Rai Kah Mercury released their debut single, 'Terror Incognita', in September 2018, which was well received by audiences.

https://www.facebook.com/raikahmercury/ - the band maintains their Facebook site well and keeps it frequently updated with gig listing and media exposure. They have an array of videos and photos, as well as all information required for contacting the band.

ReverbNation - a good and simple Reverbnation profile page acting as an official website. Clear access to music, photos, videos and gig listings (including Google maps). Great for both fans and press to follow.

Emily Lockett

Emily Lockett is a singer/songwriter from Stoke-on-Trent, UK. Using a style somewhere between folk and modern pop, Emily has sincerity to her voice that is endearing. Having received acclaim from different music blogs and performing live on radio stations such as BBC Radio Stoke and Cannock Choice Radio, Emily is building a name for herself.

Emily recently won the British Country Airplay's 'Artist of The Year 2018 Peoples Vote'.

https://www.facebook.com/EmilyLockettMusic/ - regularly updated with posts regarding new gigs, media exposure and mentions of upcoming plans. Many performance videos available with photographs for fans to enjoy; however, the contact information is limited.

https://www.emilylockett.co.uk/ - the official website is more informative than Emily's social media platforms. A list of upcoming gigs is immediately available with information of the event, as well as a playlist of Emily's music. The news link below is updated regularly, and you can see that this website is managed by Emily through the personal writing style.

All From Nothing

All the way from Emporia, Kansas come five young Americans to form the rock band All From Nothing. Mixing alternative, modern and hard rock styles, the five-piece are slowly building a fan base while playing gigs, writing music and releasing videos left, right and centre. Their influences range from pop-punk icons Blink 182 to alternative rockers Rise Against.

All From Nothing are:

Jeff Kitselman on lead vocals.
Sage Thurston on guitar and backing vocals.
Gabriel Maruda on guitar and backing vocals.
Josh Pavlik on bass.
James Lee on drums.

All From Nothing released their video 'Burning Trees' on October 11th, 2018.

https://www.facebook.com/AllFromNothing/ - the social media account is well-maintained with regular updates on releases, gigs, and further media exposure. An array of photographs and videos are available allowing fans to view band performances. The appropriate amount of band contact information is available, with some personal features to the 'about' section making it a little less business-like.

https://www.reverbnation.com/AllFromNothing - Reverbnation accounts are ideal as band websites because the site has demarcated sections devoted to shows, music playlists and a band biography. The site is updated regularly, but not as regularly as the Facebook account.

Purusa

Burying the hatchet is always a good thing, as long as it's used as a metaphor and not a real hatchet buried in someone's head. Strong evidence of this is the indie rock four-piece from Portland, Oregon, known as Purusa. The band formed in 1999 and from 2000 to 2003 experienced rapid success as a national act releasing two albums, touring across the West coast, and even releasing an advance single for their third album featuring Ken Stringfellow of The Posies. Unfortunately, it would be over a decade before the much anticipated third album hit the stands when the band made a triumphant return in 2015 at the Aladdin Theater in Portland. Purusa now have a licensing deal with Merina Film Company and continue to write music moving onward with the unique indie rock sound.

Purusa are:

Kris Kirkman on guitar and lead vocals.
Zach Hinkelman on guitar.
Andrew Marshall on bass.
Andy King on drums.

https://www.facebook.com/purusapdx/ - a well-maintained social media account with an array of photographs and videos. Gig listing is available, along with links to other social media and different contact details. This is highly informative and isn't too formal, so you feel as if you are learning more about the band while still engaging on a personal level.

http://www.purusaband.com/ - a well-designed website with easy-to-view colour scheme. Each section of the website is easily reached via the menu, along with a full streaming of their social media accounts on the site. Unless you have a limited data package and have problems downloading graphic backgrounds, this is a great website.

River Lynch and The Spiritmakers

River Lynch and The Spiritmakers is a tale of one singer-songwriter who decided to follow a dream instead of sticking to society's mainstream ideals. After realising he was more of a musician than an academic, River Lynch left college to embark on a solo career for approximately three years. In 2015, he decided it was time to move beyond singer-songwriter status combining his talents with friends; thus, River Lynch and The Spiritmakers were born. A unique combination of rock 'n' roll, blues and rock, the young men from Rochester, New York have released a single and performed with multiple touring acts including Jesse Dayton.

River Lynch and The Spiritmakers are:

River Lynch on guitar and lead vocals.
Schuyler Skuse on bass.
Tim Leverett on drums.

River Lynch and The Spiritmakers released their single, 'Straight Through' in October 2017.

https://www.facebook.com/riverlynchmusic/ - an informative social media account with a great focus on gigs. One exciting feature on this account is the Reverbnation widget with the band's full EPK available, including press review quotes, links to other social accounts and access to music. While it might not be as personalised as some other accounts, the EPK widget is a great feature.

https://www.riverlynch.com/ - the website has all contact, press, and biography information, along with links to their social media accounts. Once again, there's a link to their EPK which is wonderful for press purposes. However, the website has a video background, so it may be difficult to upload if the internet connection is bad or the user has a low data package.

Trey Connor

Trey Connor is a young pop-rock artist hailing from Hartland, Michigan. He began his career in music at age 15 as the front man for modern rock band Bulletproof; however, after two EP releases and a music award, Trey decided to pursue a solo career in the pop-rock genre. In late 2016, Trey released his debut solo EP with producer Tommee Profitt. Since then, he has released two music videos, a single, and another EP. This year, Trey is relocating to Austin, Texas, and indicates that he will be beginning another step in his musical experience. His influences include Skid Row, Goo Goo Dolls, and Foo Fighters.

Trey Connor's most recent release is his music video for 'My Ghosts' in April 2018.

https://www.facebook.com/TreyConnorMusic/ - Trey's social media account could be likened to a personal Facebook account. It is well-maintained and shares many videos not only of gigs but of covers with personal messages in the descriptions. Links to other social media accounts are available, along with contact details and information about himself. The account also has a Reverbnation app with an EPK, so fans have access to music and press reviews.

http://www.treyconnor.com/index.html - a well-structured site with a clear menu, easy-to-view setting and access to all multimedia. Streaming from other social media sites is available, along with links to charities Trey supports which is a nice, personalised touch.

White Label Analog

White Label Analog is an indie pop foursome hailing from the city of Austin in Texas. They released their debut EP in September 2016, which prompted a tour from Austin to the Pacific Northwest and down the West Coast of the US. According to Paul Driscoll from RadioBDC, White Label Analog "created a sound that echoes some of the greats in the indie and alternative genres, while remaining uniquely their own". By 2017, White Label Analog's tracks were featured in MTV shows, and the single 'Where Have You Been' was licensed to feature in the film 'My Ranger'.

White Label Analog is:

Chris Didear on lead vocals.
Heath Macintosh on drums and vocals.
Chal Boudreaux on guitar and vocals.
Mike Fisher on bass.

White Label Analog released their latest single 'Everybody Knows' in September 2018.

https://www.facebook.com/whitelabelanalog/ - a well-maintained and personalised social media account. The videos provided offer insight into the band's experiences, and lots of information is available for live events. A significant focus on community engagement, and good links to contact information and other social media accounts. Overall, a really good Facebook account.

https://www.whitelabelanalog.com/ - while there is a carefully laid-out menu to music, merch and gigs, all of this information is available on the homepage. A link to social media accounts and videos are available making it highly informative for new and current fans. A large header picture, so that could be a bit off-putting.

Liber Electro

Liber Electro is an indie electronic three-piece formed in the Ukraine, Odessa to be precise. Founded in 2013, they released an EP titled 'Liber Electro I' - an album that showed how the band uses powerful electronics to present a unique sound without being too overwhelming. Liber Electro are influenced by the sounds of Steve Vai, Led Zeppelin and Jamariquai.

Liber Electro is:

Maksin Gorovenko on keyboards.
Vasilieva Liudmila on lead vocals.
Vladimir Pavleshchiuk on guitar.

https://www.facebook.com/liberelectro/ - the social media account has a personalised touch with a lot of photographs from Instagram making it useful for people interested in following the band. The band profile widget provides access to press reviews, music samples and gig details keeping people updated for performances. Little information regarding biography, but the contact information is adequate.

https://www.reverbnation.com/liberelectro - this is a Reverbnation band profile page, so it has information regarding music, videos and shows. It also has community reviews with access to other social media accounts which is great for new and existing fans. Contact details are not available, and this should be considered.

New Gems Rising

Joel Cross

Joel Cross is a Grammy- Nominated soul singer from Texas, whom achieved global stardom after his rendition of Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off “received over a million views on You Tube. Cross soon attracted the interest of Capitol Records, America’s Got Talent and Grammy- Award winner Indi Arie, whom he collaborated with on her award winning 2017 album “Songsversation: Medicine. Cross is currently recording the follow up entitled Worthy . Cross’ voice is strong, enriched in heart and raw emotion that will be difficult not to appreciate with elements of gospel incorporated into the sound. India Arie describes Cross’s voice as “beautiful baritone coming from a beautiful heart”.

http://www.joelcross.com/

This is another well-presented site with striking images of Cross that conveys the message of a talented singer with some links to music, videos, lyrics and a compelling biography.

https://www.facebook.com/joelcross.music

This is another compelling account featuring updates on cross’s performances, Magazine appearances, photos of friends and fans, plus videos of covers too. This is an all-round informative account that appeals to all fans.

InCrest

It was whilst in Boarding School, Danish Grunge rockers’ InCrest were formed by Male Slywest, Jonas Tange and former Bassist Jonas Berthelsen in 2003.

The band initially formed through the inspiration of nineties' acts like Soundgarden and Nirvana with the intentions of emulating them.

In 2007, Berthelsen was replaced by Ande Hagedorn- Olson, which soon saw the band change musical direction into a more progressive sound, incorporating bands such as Tool and Porcupine Tree.. They play roaring melodies and frantic guitar- orientated rock with thought-provoking lyrics. They have released two studio albums thus far; The 2014 Rubicon Atlas & this year’s latest release The Ladder, The Climb and The Fall.

http://increst.dk/

This is an accessible site with a strong colour coordination that is easy to maneuver. There are latest news updates from the band’s social accounts, music videos, photos and an informative biography. I feel this an efficient site for new fans.

https://www.facebook.com/increstband/

This is another organized account with regular updates on the band’s promo, plus photos of the band relaxing, as well as videos of them on tour. This is certainly enough to pique the interest.

Billy Thompson

Billy Thompson is a wily veteran, whose songwriting, slide guitar technique and performances have won him new fans across USA. His music has been described as “Hendrix meets Little Feat”. Thompson has performed with fellow veterans such as Albert King and Art Neville, along with opening up for Robert Cray and Sonny Landreth.

His styles incorporate a large pool of genres like funk, blues, rock and soul.

Billy Thompson recently released his 8th studio album BT”.

https://billythompsonmusic.com/

As with all the pages I have reviewed thus far, this is another well maintained site I enjoyed perusing. I can tell Thompson is a well-respected musician by the way it has been presented. I liked how it wasn’t flash and bright, which made it easy to read. There are some reviews under the news section for all of us music writers to look through (smiley face), alongside tour dates, photos of Thompson with the legendary itinerary he has befriended. There are also recordings and an endorsement link, which can be of interest to any musician out there.

This site doesn’t have much information in comparison to the homepage. The posts are more geared towards promoting gigs, rather than informing new fans. The videos are a nice touch with some performances with renowned musicians, and the photos show Thompson’s fun side .

Greg Larkin

Greg Larkin is a something of an unusual prodigy. The self- taught guitarist plays largely acoustic instrumental through a fingerpicking/tapping style, which creates a feeling there are more than one guitar playing at once. He has been touring for 6 years, supporting stars like Nick Harper, Arthur Brown & Wallis Bird. Larkin incorporates different genres like Jazz, Blues, Latin fusion etc. Larkin recently began work with numerous figures in the world of Electronica, Jazz, Trip- Hop and Hip Hop.

Larkin recently featured on the DRS track “Your Name” with Hip Hop artist Skittles.

https://www.theinimitablegreg.com/

My first thoughts on visiting where how it is self- managed. There is little to suggest this may be a musician’s webpage, except for a gig update and a background picture of a guitar. I felt this changed when I clicked on the about section. Larkin writes a warm and personal introduction of his abilities alongside a collection of music videos and performances. I felt this was a positive for new fans. There are no photos, However, the links to Larkin’s Three albums give fans plenty to sink their teeth into.

This is another good social media page that offers more than the webpage. There are some more videos of Larkin on stage, which feels very intimate. There are regular updates on upcoming gigs and news on appearances Also, there are some great links to music too. I felt this site appealed more to the listener.

Katie Rose

Katie Rose is a Multi- Instrumentalist/ Singer/ Songwriter from Taledo, Washington. She combines Blues, Pop, rock, Soul, Latin and Reggae to create powerful choruses and easy listening beats that will leave you feeling relaxed. Rose began singing at a young age; her first performance was aged 9 at a Local Eagles show. Rose has gone on to perform with her own band, The Fun addicts, and currently attends Berklee College of Music.

http://www.katierosemusic8.com/

I felt this was a professionally run site that appeals to visitors alike. There is a large background photo of Rose with a guitar, which instantly tells me she is a musician. The interface is easy to maneuver; plus, there is easy access to music, videos of Rose performing, as well as some lovely photos of rose out and about.

https://www.facebook.com/katierosemusic8/

This is a nicely organized account that is targeted towards fans. There are some nice photos’ that mix performance and personal pics, which I felt involves fans There are some fun videos that appear to be recorded on home video too. The only negative point is there is little updates, but rather repeated promotion of the singer’s reverb nation page.

Take Your Pick. High Quality Bands Just Found

Joy Conaway

Joy Conaway is a singer-songwriter currently residing in Atlanta, Georgia. Fueled by her desire to inspire, uplift and spread JOY to others through her music, she comforts and excites the soul through every lyric and note. Her EP, "A Tale of Joy & Sorrow", written and produced by The Gigabots (Douglas Whatley & Prem Midha), is available for FREE download. The story of Joy Conaway has just begun.

For Joy Conaway all that matters is music so on the official website you will encounter first her songs and videos. You can feel her presence with the sensual backgrounds. Social media are available and you can find them at the bootom of the website.

ZØYA

ZØYA is an independent recording artist, singer-songwriter, musician and storyteller based in Los Angeles, CA. Her raspy, pure, emotional vocals along with unique and spunky presence on stage will wake you up if you're asleep and surely will grab your attention right away. The largest part of her music is about struggles that she was going through in her life, especially during her teenage years. Her songs are for those who need encouragement or a positive vibe throughout their day. Though mistreated by others in the past, ZØYA now imbues her music with the kind of soul somebody only gets by aligning an inner fire with a greater power.

A very well structured website boys and gilrs full of informations and profecional photographs of ZØYA. On stage or not. Very cool feature the spot where news and events are gathered on the center of the home page. Very rich social media presence also. Highlight of the website ZØYA's tour dates schedule.

P.S The old school background photo kicks ….

Of Sea and Stone

Of Sea and Stone is an emerging Americana duo known for their polished vocal harmonies and intimate songwriting. Their sound ranges from joyful to solemn, hopeful to desperate, with raw, honest lyrics carried by their haunting melodies. The duo consists of Luke Dierker and Morgan Dierker, who met in January 2014 through the popular dating app Tinder. The two quickly discovered their natural vocal chemistry and began writing together in Morgan’s hometown of Columbia, MO. The following week, the two performed their first show at Gunter Hans, a small German café in Columbia. After a few years of regularly performing in Columbia, the two got married and moved to Austin, TX.

The Americana duo introduce it self with few HD photos and connects with the music community right aways with their social media options that you can find on the top of the website.

Music, media and tour options are in the front line for the visitors. An on line shop is open too with a special item, handy and needed for the lovers of cold refreshments or beer (beer for me boys and girls).

WD-HAN

WD-HAN is an alternative indie rock band based in Tampa Bay, Florida. The band took its original form with Cal Henry on guitar, jamming and writing with high school friends. In need of a name, WD-HAN was considered and loved instantly.
Over the following years as the band continued to write new music and play bigger and better gigs they started to build a following. With the addition of Lea Campbell on drums and Spencer Barnes as the band’s front man, they developed their own kind of pop rock sound heavily influenced by a love of classic rock and blues.

There is only one word to describe a band with a girl on the drum set. F@@ing Gorgeous (two words but worth it).

The band as it seems cares more about the right promotion of their music. A very cool feauture is on the home page the new album promotion with a player to listen and buy their songs. An on line shop is active where you can buy T-shirts or the new album.

Social media are available too on every page on the right.

Something that the band must add on the website is the band's BIO.

Highlight of the band it is the very clever name. In fact it is more a statement of the band that they (We) Don’t Have A Name!
