Geisa Fernandes - Brasil / Rio de Janeiro

The repertoire of this jazz singer and awarded songwriter from Rio de Janeiro reveals influences of Brazilian popular music, the French chanson and Latin American rhythms, but most of all, Geisa Fernandes is a jazz singer. Billie Holiday aficionada (back in college folks used to call her "Lady Doc"), this PhD holder and Comics researcher was a former vocalist of several bands in São Paulo.

Her first solo CD, produced and arranged by Francisco Falcon was released in 2013. She composed ten out of the album's eleven tracks. Between 1995 and 2000 Geisa lived in Germany and in Belgium and got in touch with European art scene. "The contact to various cultures was crucial for my music. Travelling provided some awesome experiences, friends for life and a lot of inspiration."

La Nueva Milonga, her new EP is a result of her research on Latin Rhythms from the Rio de La Plata region. "About the work, producer Santiago Tavella says: Geisa Fernandes is one of those rare musical talents that "simply sings" (as if singing could ever be simple) but yes, when someone sings like that, naturally managing to deliver strong feelings and fragility at the same time. The selection of standards and new tunes reveal a rigorous artist, capable of surprising us with a deep and uninhibited variety of songs that make up a work with characteristics that are difficult to find. In conclusion, a work that surprises, unusual in many aspects."
