Q.O.K. has been building a buzz in the suburbs of Northern Virginia as a young alternative pop/rock band of siblings with mature tastes in music and a great chemistry on stage - but they’re far from your average “family band”.
The band originally started in 2009 when drummer Hallie Roberts began taking lessons at the age of 6. Guitarist/songwriter Jerald Roberts and bassist Loren Roberts were already journeymen of their craft. The only logical step was to recruit keyboardist/vocalist Ingrid Roberts, and singer/songwriter Kristyn Roberts to complete the quintet. Over the next 8 years Q.O.K. grew and developed. The days of late night Guitar Hero World Tour grew into local festivals filled with cover music, which turned into recording & performing original tunes.
Q.O.K. writes and performs original music that incorporates pop, rock, reggae, jazz, blues, latin, Caribbean, and soul - directly influenced from their blended cultural background and various ages. They are known for their unique sound and are essentially a melting pot of the past and present musical world. Ronald Steptoe, USA Cares Board Member comments “I call them the best of America's Future”.
The band currently works with organizations who represent the military community and advocate for mental health awareness, both topics which inspired their original song “Unknown Soldier”. In the past they have shared their music and talents with local public schools to support suicide prevention among teenagers. Following the release of their debut EP, Q.O.K. is heading back into the studio to complete their sophomore release and continue touring.
Q.O.K. hopes to continue to use their music to build and strengthen their community through love and understanding. At the heart of it, Q.O.K. is about doing what you love with those you love and sharing the positive message that music can bring with others.
